If there’s even a chance you’ll be staying for longer than 3 months, and you’re in your home country, get a METV. No reason not to.

So not to be nit-picky but as we are talking about visa's and such.. only DC is an actually embassy. The others are consulates and while they both offer similar services they have different roles and who they service. I was told I needed to go to DC but I'm not sure if that simply means the person didn't know that I could go to a consulate, or that I would in fact need to go to DC.
