Hey gang,

A friend said the long standing rule that land entries only give a 15 day visa exempt stamp has changed to 30 days as of the beginning of the year. Can anyone confirm or deny?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The visa exempt entry duration by land crossings in Thailand has indeed changed to 30 days. This has been in effect since January 1, 2017, allowing travelers from certain countries to receive a 30-day stamp upon entry. However, there is a limit of two entries per calendar year under this visa exemption rule.

I got 30 days last year, so it's been like that for a while.

If you were from a G7 country (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK & the USA) you would have gotten 30 days even before Dec 31st 2016.

people from 44 countries get 30 day visa exempt entries by land crossings BUT as has been said they get only TWO in a calendar year.

What is the traveler's country of origin? This rule changed in Nov 2013 and has been 30 days by land crossing for G7 countries since then. They added some recently.

Yes. Since January 1st, 2017.

But you are allowed to enter by land no more than two times per calendar year
