TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew a driver's license in Thailand that has been expired for less than a year, you will need the following documents: your old driver's license, passport, copies of these documents, a medical certificate, and a recent photograph. If you are not on a non-immigrant visa, you will need to watch an online instructional video and take a reaction and color blindness test. Some DLT offices may allow you to use a 'yellow house book' in place of a residency certificate. Ensure to bring originals as well as copies of all documents when you go for renewal.

Garrett,good morning.

I hope you may clarify the following points for me.

My 5 year Thai driving

License will expire on

26 September this year.

1: How soon may I apply to DLT prior to the expiry date?

2: I live in Huahin and will apply at DLT Chaam, apart from the

current license, my Passport, Yellow Tabien Baan , Pink ID card, House Registration certificate, could you please confirm what other documents will be required?

FYI, this will be my 3rd

Driving License renewal. Thanks.

Hey Peter, most DLT offices allow renewals up to 60 days before expiration. You'll need 1 copy of everything per license (so car and motorbike would need 2 copies), copy of passport data page, visa/extension, old licenses, yellow book. Other than the documents you listed, you also need a medical certificate, otherwise you should be good.

Yes it is, remember though it's the cheap medical cert from any clinic (I paid 80 baht for it couple months ago). With a non-immigrant visa you do NOT need to watch the 1 hour video.

Instead of that, you can use "the yellow house book" if you have one at MOST DLT offices.

You need a certificate of residency for a renewal, passport, old license, copies of everything, and medical certificate. If you're NOT on a non-immigrant visa then you need to watch the 1 hour video before you go there. The videos online, Google DLT online learning. Show them the screenshot when you're done.

You need to go to the DLT to make an appointment. They will give you a to-do list there.

Pattaya must be using a seperate system then from the main DLTs appointment system. The DLTs system that they use in Bangkok and Chiang Mai will only take Thai ID cards, foreigners can go in the mornings without an appointment because they can't make appointments.
