Good way to destroy the economy: stop people being able to buy high value items. I know fraud is a problem but the banks need to work smarter rather than having draconian measures like this. It will be like going back to the old days in Thailand where if you buy a high value item you will need to draw the cash from a bank and physical take it to the place you are buying. This is how you used to buy new cars 20 years ago in Thailand. Welcome to progress!

Now this is scary. People change visas all the time. I have a Thai wife, children who have Thai nationality and we have a house in Thailand. What happens if I don't have a marriage visa or dependants visa because an old visa lapsed and i don't need the proper visa because i am just visiting Thailand and visa exempt is sufficient for my visit?

I got a dtv back in July 24 when they first came out. Been in and out of Thailand about 6 times since then. No issues at all.

Dtv is a visa to try and curb the visa runners. All you have to do is have a half baked reason for getting it and 500k baht in a bank somewhere. You still need to report your whereabouts in TL every 90 days. I have one and i think its a great idea. Think of it as a solution to a problem: visa runners using visa exempt.

If you leave and re-enter you will be fine. But if you go to immigration to extend then maybe they might ask you what you have learned from your cooking course 😀

Whoever owns your house in Thailand can write a letter advising they have invited you to stay at your house. I know it sounds stupid but have done these in the past, my Thai wife inviting me to stay at our house in Thailand! I write the letter in English using her name and she signs it.

Kind of think you just a Wise card from you home country and just use that for largish purchases. No need to send money to Thailand, become taxable for it if you exceed the 180 day limit, struggling with banks to make withdrawals, limits on how much you can send, etc.Lazada is your friend 😀

Best keep evidence of return to uk, visa stamps in passport, etc. The rules are quite clear regarding being in the uk 6 months and regaining residency status and thus bring your pension up to date. Some folks go to the Philippines to achieve the same thing.

You could arrive in Thailand 179 days before the 31 Dec and send your money before that date!
