You should be fine. Next time you come to ThIland with and education visa, bring a letter of acceptance from the University too.

If you want to play safe, get an IDP. It's valid for a year.

If you plan to live in Thailand, just get a Thai license. It's cheap, quick, and easy.

For home country license, it really depends on policemen. Some are okay with it. But insurance company won't pay if you have an accident.

The whole Thailand isn't wheelchair friendly, mainly because of footpath. In certain areas, it can be even hard to walk there.

However, if it's inside a supermarket/mall, it shouldn't be any problem.
