Hello everyone,

I’m a Dutch citizen preparing for my long-term stay in Thailand on the DTV visa. I’m considering cancelling my Dutch health insurance since I will deregister from the Netherlands, as it is no longer required. However, I have some questions regarding travel insurance.

Does anyone here have experience with a travel insurance policy, specifically covering medical expenses, for a full year? How does deregistering from the Netherlands affect travel insurance coverage?

Also, would it be possible or advisable to get a good health insurance or travel insurance directly in Thailand?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Would anyone be able to advise on international health insurance? I’m 50 and in the UK, trying to get health insurance and am getting quotes of around £200/month. It feels very expensive, is it cheaper to get health insurance from providers once in Thailand? Or is this just what I need to expect at my age :(

My partner and I bought insurance with Bangkok Insurance (via Bangkok Bank) yesterday. We received medical insurance cards with instructions to arrive at the hospital and present the card and ID if we ever needed to use it. Today, my partner twisted his ankle whilst running and we ended up at the hospital. He's got a nasty ligament tear and a tibia fracture. Because our insurance policy is so new (purchased yesterday afternoon), we were not in the system yet and the hospital couldn't get through to the insurers due to Songkran.

We were advised to pay for all bills and claim back. Obviously, we did this so that he could receive treatment.

Does anyone know the process to claim back medical expenses with Bangkok Insurance, when ideally we should have been covered immediately? We have all receipts, medical reports etc.

Assuming we meet all criteria and evidence, will they just pay directly into his bank account the full amount?

Thanks!

This would fall under the "everything else" section of the group. I've been going to Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok for a pretty good while for psoriasis treatment. Medicine is Secukinumab/Cosentyx. Would other hospitals be less expensive than Bumrungrad for the med (as it's about $660/month from Bumrungrad)? Does anyone have a Dermatologist recommendation in Bangkok? Thanks in advance for any info!

I have AXA insurance... In the (hopefully unlikely) chance one gets COVID and is forced to go into one of those isolation centers... How much does AXA cover (see my coverage below.)

Does my "Medical Expense due to accident or sickness" of 1.75 million baht cover all COVID related expenses including hospitalization.

I got AXA insurance (see below) before coming here on Thailand pass... as it's expiring soon, I'm trying to see if I should extend it.

Have anyone experience with the one2go website and the Alliance insurance they offer. I had an extensive e-mail exchange with them about the insurance. Everything is looks okay I bought.. they sent me all the documents...

The website say "All our unique health and travel policy comes as standard with covid-19 coverage and have been approved by the Thai Embassy."

They sent a cover letter which contain "The insurance covers the reimbursement of medical expenses resulting from accidents or illness up to 150.000€/per year including Covid-19 in the limits of our general conditions"

I just checked the terms and condition and the policy but I can't find the wording in it what is says exactly Covid.

This will cause any problem? I just want to check everything twice because I'm flying on Sunday.
