I wouldn't trust your money in one place, specially Thai banks even if rates are better. Always keep money in your home currency. Its safe and there's compensation schemes. You have very little protection in Thailand
My girlfriend was rejected tòo on the basis of no job or evidence of her returning. Even though we had a return ticket, an English course and booked visits to various events in the UK so she cam see the country. Main rejection was based on her not having anything to return to.

Yes, it's the same for UK. You get 30 visa exempt but if you want to stay longer then apply for a visa in your home country. Here it is £30 with proof of income via bank statement, insurance and enough money to spend in Thailand. I think it is 40, 000 baht
