Why do I need to provide my arrival date and accommodation details when applying for the DTV visa in Thailand?

Hi, I am trying to apply for the DTV visa, but they are asking me for my arrival date and the accommodation where I will stay. Why do I need this information to apply for the DTV visa? Shouldn’t I apply first and then book the flights once the visa is granted? Imagine if I book the flights for three months from now, but the visa takes longer to be approved…

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a DTV visa in Thailand, it's common for the immigration authorities to request your planned arrival date and accommodation details. This requirement can be frustrating for applicants who prefer to secure a visa before booking flights, as it raises concerns about potential delays in visa approval. Several comments from the community suggest that while it is standard procedure to provide this information, applicants are often able to use provisional bookings or even placeholder information without it being strictly verified later. Many recommend using refundable flight options or printouts from booking sites to ease the burden of this requirement.

It doesn’t ask you to upload a ticket or proof of accommodation so just put something in the box

Do you know what kind of documents they ask from us to apply for Schengen??? It sounds so funny when europeans complain about this rule. You ask exactly same things with many other stupid rules.

I’m not complaining; I just don’t understand how it works. I mean, if I buy a ticket and miss the flight, and then fly with another one, I don’t want to be denied entry because it doesn’t match the visa. The person complaining right now is you.

there are no flight number in a visa

same rule for Schengen. Deal with it.

How about using booking document or reservation documents. Those are free.

Just make it up, I don’t think they have the resources to verify where you’re actually staying! 🤷‍♂️
Steve *******
Put in your planned arrival date and flight info so the visa can be issued in time and details of your first few days accommodation, you don't have to adhere to the info provided once the visa is issued
Adam ********
Get all your ducks in a row first if you’re concerned about losing money in the process. If they deny the visa make sure the flight and place you are staying are refundable.

Remember, all of us are guests. They make the rules. Not easy of course but it’s their country so the rules they make are fair.

Depending on the country you are coming from and where you are a citizen this may be very lax, or it could be scrutinized if you don’t have all the boxes checked. You are also at the descretion of the immigration officer you walk up to. Thats a toss up either way. Usually consistent but if they are having a bad day or for some reason don’t like the look of your face, they can signal to make it a longer process.

I’m just worried that if the visa takes a long time and I don’t fly on the same flight I initially provided, immigration might say something and deny me entry.

Onwardticket.com

Or print a temporary booking from website. Many of them hold your booking for 1-2 days
Chris *********
Just get a quote for the flight

This shouldn’t be an issue. Are you eligible for this visa? This question for the application should be one of the least concerns. Do you have sufficient funds and documents from your employer?

@Tommy *******
Yes. I’m just worried about having a flight booked and the visa taking so long that I miss it, or if I buy a refundable ticket, then entering with a different flight and having immigration say something.

Make it up m8, this is the land of bullshit!!

some airlines allow you to cancel within 24 hours. So purchase an eticket,send in a digital copy as proof of travel, then cancel for a refund. When you get the visa then purchase the ticket you then need.
Chris *****
@John *********
spot on! Haha
Frank-Steven ***********
They don’t ask for proof of either flight or accommodation (anymore). So, just mention a flight you aim at taking and a place you will likely book.

once the visa is issued, you can take whatever flight you want, take any airport or even any land border. Visa is not bound to your originally mentioned entry. That was only the care during COVID when quarantine was required.
Henrik *****
Do they ask for arrival date or do they ask for flightticket
Itziar ***************

@Henrik ****
Flight number
Henrik *****
The same route with the same airline has the same flightnumber everytime it fly, so flightnumber is not connected to a certain date.
Lynnette *******
Book a cancellable ticket. And same for accomodation.
John *******
Same with euro visas.
Kaj **********
its just intended, so just fill in what you think. They will not ask for evidence later on.
М. ****
So the same shit continues even with this visa? Do they need accommodation for the full 5 years and return flight? Clowns

precisely my thoughts

Giving an address of accomodation is standard for many other countries. It's not that uncommon.

@Erdo *********
except if you go to a hotel or a landlord does the correct thing and registers your TM30 then they do have something
Lynnette *******
@Erdo *********
same for some other countries. I had to give address to enter USA. I then stayed several other places. Why does it bother you? Is it because it's Thailand?
Kieran *******
Just get a plane ticket from onward flight. It’s fake but they never ever check it
Lucas ********
@Kieran ******
often times they ask for proof of payment for the flight. Depends on where you apply.
Kieran *******
@Lucas *******
okay thanks, I wasn’t aware of this so be careful
@Soham ******
and take your own risks.
Kieran *******
You can also book yourself on a flight Thats refundable. But to be honest you’re so unlikely to get denied entry if you’re from a western country etc.

I think India is fine too

appreciate your informations Kieran. You are so helpful. 👍🏼👍🏼

@Kieran ******
is there any website for it ?? Would love to know
Kieran *******
@Soham ******
I do t even think it’s fake. I think they book you on it and cancel it a few days later or something
Vinay ********
@Kieran ******
I have 60 day visa approved. I've booked an onward flight to return on 7th October, I land on 8th August. They can't cancel before I arrive as this will restrict my 60 day visa. I do have a return flight for 11th September but wanted the 60 day visa in case I want to stay longer. They didn't ask for my arrival date when I booked with Onward

It makes no sense at all, but yes that is how it works. You could opt for a fully refundable flight if that makes you feel more secure.

that's not a thing. You are not required to actually use the flight you presented while applying for a visa.
Johan *************
@Bart *************
Not saying that you are wrong. Just asking, are you sure about that?

As when I came in on a multiple entry tourist visa the immigration officer looked at my printed paper/visa and then asked to see my arrivals ticket.
Bart **************
@Johan ************
I'm absolutely certain that you are not required to use the ticket that you presented for a visa application.
