TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the current exchange rate of GBP to THB, which is approximately 46.8, and whether it's a prudent time to convert GBP to Thai Baht due to speculated economic shifts such as Thailand potentially joining BRICS. Comments reflect skepticism about speculative claims of the exchange rate reaching 62 and discuss broader themes of currency stability, financial trust in Thai banks, and investment strategies for expatriates considering living in Thailand.

Have absolutely no idea why you think the pound is pegged to the dollar, care to explain? It's scary how many people are convinced they know it all but are clueless. A currency is largely, but not exclusively, dependant on how much cash you have in reserve, ie if the shit hits the fan economy wise, your capability of buying your way out of it - now go and google it! Thailand has more than the UK or Germany. The baht isn't going anywhere and is only a fag paper behind the Yen as being seen as a safe haven.

Children....play nice !

Every war since WW1 US leaves weapons and equip behind.

But we always bill and get paid later. It's only been a couple of years since Britain paid its final bill to us for for WW2, down to the last bullet and choc. bar.

Last 5 wars, US lost, yet, when dust settles, we were paid for all losses.

US is about 240 years old, been at war or action 228 of them.

US is in the 'war business', all we make are weapons, and mercenaries for rent.

I doubt if Trump is the most evil person he met ..come on man.

Evil is droning American and innocent kids being put in cages (Obama) or leaving Americans behind and billions of weapons in Afghanistan (JB Admin).

Look I agree I stay away from politics but we live in a world today that give children puberty blockers and sex reassignment surgery. And transgender story time ..evil is not letting the children alone.

But honestly , if someone says someone is evil it's hyperbolic. I'm a Christian and biblically both parties have forsaken God

By the way I needed my masters to work for DCFS child abuse investigation.. Got my PhD just for fun (education) I made mid six figures when I became a manager for the Dept ..but I love time learning .

Dude it was not clear Trump tried to overthrow the government or he would have legally been charged and convicted of insurrection. Trust me if they had that on him he would have been nailed to the wall ...they didn't

And NP just admitted she was in charge of calling the NG but didn't...and takes responsibility now.

Trump is no saint but he is not demon . Thats hyperbolic language not reality.

I also went to theology school...you want talk about evil....evil is real and unfortunately woke left don't know what it really looks like.

I have no dog in the fight. All I know is we are in big trouble no matter who is selected.

But hey your in Thailand. Let the Trump derangement syndrome go..

And if your friend really worked in a such high position, then he knows the real evils of government and how the CIA has destroyed so many lives like when they flooded the inner cities poor black communities with drugs or forcing a medical procedure on people .

The SUPREME Court just ruled forced COVID 19 mRNA Spike protein shots are UNCONSTITUTIONAL....tell that to the 1000s of patriots who were discharged from the service for refusing to take the jab....that's evil

I agree we agree in most things and thank you for a Great Banter back and forth. No hard feelings it was fun...America is on borrowed time no matter who gets in office because it's about the ruling class and the rest of us SERFS ..One Love 💚💛❤️

As mentioned, CA is a different world and I have lived in San Jose and worked several years in Silicon Valley/Palo Alto/San Ramon as I’m high tech and SV was where the $$$ were. Overall, we agree, just in different ways. My ex is also a PhD and tenured Professor as a 2nd career. Comfortable gig. All politics suck and one of my friends worked with Trump in the West Wing, quickly resigned early in the first term and calls the most evil person he has ever met. No other way around it, but most elected Republicans now ignore and overlook what was a clear attempt to overthrow the gov’t. That’s when they lost my vote
Mikki ***********
@Doug **********
we do agree , the extreme right is too much. By the way I have a masters and PhD, lived on the east side and worked in the toughest parts of SF, Velajo, San Jose, East Palo Alto, Oakland.

But back then it was very safe for those who lived there. . And everyone looked out for each other but not anymore.

With all due respect people like you will list not manipulated stats instead of walking down those streets yourself. I walked the walk. Your playing backseat quarterback. .

But I guess since I'm a minority I should bow down to your white privilege and believe you rather than my own eyes.

The fact is both parties are there for power. And I was a MLK, JFK, Democrat. .the party has lost its way.

People should be more concerned about A weekend at Bernie's ,double energy prices, and double everything else.

The draft for men and women being reinstated, 1 trillion dollar every month in interest payments to the debt

And what about safety? American big cities are incredibly unsafe. It's ironic , when POTUS visited SF a secret service agent got robbed by gunpoint..the irony

Dude it's easy to jab one side but both sides are corrupt imo....one love ❤️💛💚

Mikki ***********
@the OP

From a Geo political perspective , I agree the USA dollar has been in decline. Many new brick countries and Saudia ditched the petro dollar.

But If you look at history, every empire has fallen. And I agree the USA is in the process but no time soon to collapse . WW3 will start (I hope not) but the USD debt is so high we can't even afford the trillion dollar interest payments. War has been the answer every time the mighty dollar was sinking fast in the past.

By the way Ukraine has pinned a contract with BlackRock to rebuild Ukraine $$$$.

But the chess pieces are being put on the table. There's Russian ship and nuclear sub parked 25 miles away from Florida.

The house just passed a mandatory draft bill (for both men and women) if needed

By the way a WW3 won't happen on mainland soil. A leaked hot mic already revealed that the European nato countries will be taking the majority of the lives lost and damage (I hope not)if a hot war starts.

I think it's good to diversify and you will be ok .

The Dollar won't collapse. The BRICS currency scheme is just an alternative to Western Sanctions. Most of the countries will still trade with the Dollar even if they promise not to. Until they cannot because either they are sanctioned or the country they want to trade with is.

People predicted the same thing when the Euro was founded. And that is with some of the most developed economies in the world.

Look who is making up the new BRICS. Heavily sanctioned countries and the poorest nations in the world who cannot even control their own currency.

Despite all their proclamations, they won't stop trading with the Dollar. That would be cutting themselves off from the West.

Besides, I have yet to see a BRICS currency. They are still debating what that would look like. China wants to use the Yuan for everybody and other countries want everyone to take their local currency but some of the BRICS countries don't want to take the currency of some of the other BRICS countries.

It is a good hedge for if/when a WW3 starts. Even if they are not actually fighting but are dependant on the countries that are.

one of my favourite sayings:

Ally ************
@Per ********
There are many sleeping giants among BRICS nations.. the only thing holding them back has been their insurmountable national debt.. once this gets wiped there will be a level playing field and they will flourish economically.. combine this with an asset backed currency moving forward and these countries will no longer be at the mercy of the West.. who have hitherto pillaged their natural resources for a pittance.. economic equality is just around the corner.. and the BRICS movement is simply one of the vehicles to drive it forward.. they don't need a common currency if exchange rates are harmonized.. and this is the intention once the infrastructure is ready!
Burnard ************
@Per ********
China also has some Sanctions difficulties. They also have the worst economy, they have had, in decades.
Burnard ************
@Ally ***********
Meaning they will accept BRICS payment (whenever they agree on one) but they are not going to stop using the Dollar & Euro (the currency of there biggest markets). If they say so, they lie. And, in the end, they may change their announced intention (they frequently do) if it looks like the BRICS currency is a Lead Balloon.

They are just keeping their options open but just watch. With that subset of countries it is more important to see what they do. Not what they say.

But still, look at the countries that are all clamoring to join the BRICS. The inclusion of most of them will bring any prospective currency down, not up.

Btw, the "Rich" countries you mention are, primarily, politically unstable.
Per *********
@Ally ***********
the BRICS countries are all weak economies with only one real strong economy which is China. And even China is still dwarfed by United States

In other words who would like to hold all these shit currencies on their balance sheets 🤷‍♂️ no one is the answer

Hence why BRICS will only become successful with a common currency. This has been on the table for a long time. But the path to a common currency is mission impossible. It’s never going to happen

The US dollar will be just fine even without all these 3rd world countries backing it. It might weaken a but nothing to be afraid of

The BRICS countries will never come to a conclusion on a common currency. Equally no country will hold any of that shit instead of dollar. It’s a one big show
Ally ************
@Burnard ***********
As at 1 Jan 24 the original 5 country BRICS alliance had doubled to 10 countries.. those 10 include 5 of the biggest oil producers in the world.. meaning 5 of the top 10 largest oil producing nations.. and some of the richest nations on the planet.. so not 'poor' by any stretch of the imagination.. and with the exception of the efforts to sanction Rus.sia.. they are not sanctioned either.. and with another 10 Asean countries set to join BRICS (including Thailand) this demonstrates the desire for the rest of the world to move away from the USD.. of course they will still want to trade with the US.. but it will be on their terms going forward.. so the US must step into line!

@Christopher *******
You've completely lost me.. if China is a BRICS nation and the US has ditched the fiat dollar and become part of the BRICS financial system.. why is there a problem trading with China.. the Yuan will replace the USD as the world's reserve country during this process.. the propensity for international trade will be unaffected.. but this is dependent upon the rainbow dollar being asset backed.. it will be because that decision has already been made.

Ally ************
@Christopher *******
You are missing the point.. the fiat dollar is dead and buried.. it has to be replaced with a new asset backed dollar.. that move is akin to joining the BRICS nations in economic terms.. and ensures continuity of trade.. the US will probably be one of the last countries to convert.. because the pResident has to be removed before that can happen.. fyi it will be known as the rainbow dollar moving forward.

Disregarding the nonsense about 62 baht to the pound ( it’s 46 ) , as a long time visitor and resident of Thailand I can say with confidence that, great place to live , bad place to invest particularly the Thai property market . It’s the easiest thing in the world to buy a property here and the hardest thing to ever sell it except at a loss . Keep your money abroad and use it to fund your Thailand living . Never invest in Thailand
Gordon *******
Good discussion fellas with good valid points raised.

Enjoyed the posts in a good debate.Thanks

@Mark *****
and they never own the land … you omitted to mention that . You spend millions of baht to build a house your wife only actually legally owns . And if you divorce … all your money is gone . But let’s not worry about trivialities like that .

My point really is most people from abroad buy condos , not all as you say , but most . Ask the owners of The Met condo project in Sathorn Road Bangkok . They paid a lot of money for expensive condos ( hundreds of them in that building and yes they are nice , ) but … here comes the punchline … developers bought the small land in from of The Met and are now building a huge sky high condo right in front of it so the owners of The Met are rushing to ( unsuccessfully ) sell before the only view they have left is of the air conditioning condensers which will soon spring up in front of them . The developers of 125 Sathorn ( the name of the condo being built in front of The Met ) specifically designed the building so all the air condensers face The Met so the nicer front view is clear for the new condo owners . In the process they obliterated the view for The Met owners , and made it impossible now to rent out or sell . Dozens of foreigners investments gone .

The house agents wouldn’t mention that to prospective buyers of course .

I’m not saying you were not successful but you did something unusual for foreigners and my advice was directed at the majority of foreigners who come here with blinkered vision , throw there money down and then lose it all years later .

At least admit I’m right about condo ownership … it’s a terrible investment
Mark ******
@Harry ********
Point being, thousands of foreigners are building houses in Thailand that have familes here. Their investment in a family home makes great sense, counter to your point of not investing here. Single, I would not invest (for profit), with a family, so many other factors are involved. Making a general statement of not to invest in Thailand is, at best, misguided advice.
Harry *********
@Mark *****
I am informed , and it says it all … your wife’s an agent !! So maybe with inside information you made money , 99% of people will lose . If you want to leave your family something then buy in a safe country eg UK just as an example where property is easy to sell ( unlike Thailand ) and it goes up in price ( unlike in Thailand ) . Buying land and subdividing it is good if you have inside help and is not suitable for most people . Most people will only know about buying a co do … huge mistake unless you like the nightmare of ever trying to sell it ( along with thousands of other condos to compete with ) and not getting your money back . And NO I have never bought a condo in Thailand because my brain still works
Mark ******
@Harry ********
You obviously don't know the property market on the islands then, and nothing of land sales. I'm retired, my wife is a part-time agent. Bought plots of land here a few years ago, subdivided and made millions in that short period. I'm not talking about condos in BKK. Smart investments are great...and if you have a family, and want to leave them with something when you pass, a property investment is a very, very, smart idea. You sound woefully uninformed.
Harry *********

you sound like an agent , they are always spouting this nonsense because it’s their job . Compared with the uk where property both for rent and sale is in short supply and huge demand , I can think of no country outside of China where there is such a huge glut of un sold units and thousands upon thousands of condos to rent , than Thailand . Prices are the same as 10 years ago and even then they can’t sell

@Harry ********
Do you understand the property market here? My wife has bought and sold land here for the past three years and has made millions. Great investment opportunities here. And for my family, I spent 7M baht for land and house, equilvalent rental at least 70K/month (4 bedroom with pool). Over say 30 years, my rent alone would be 25M and myt familyt would have nothing. Instead, whenever I pass, my wife and kids have a free house for a couple decades (or rent the house out). At that point the land would likely be worth more than the house. Sorry, investing in property here makes much more sense if you have a family here. No brainer.

Your lecture overlooks the fact that bit coin is (or has been) the primary currency of the evil child traff. icking industry.. it suited them because it is not uniformly regulated across the world.. and despite your assurances to the contrary transactions are not easily traceable.. however the fuse has been lit under that monstrosity of a business and the war against it is being won globally.. the only cryptos that will be likely to survive are XRP and XLM.. and they will be asset backed moving forward using gold (on Ripple) and silver (on Stellar).. and they will sit on a universal quantum platform that tracks all transactions.. BTC will not survive and will not exist in the new world.. this decision has already been made.. your history lesson is actually irrelevant.. because the past does not dictate the future.

Let me help you to understand some of your fundamental misunderstandings:

✅ Bitcoin was created as a consequence of 2008 Financial crisis. Simply to avoid something similar happening again

✅ in the early days of Bitcoin criminals did use Bitcoin. However they quickly realised what a terrible mistake that was! And apparently you’re now doing the same mistake! Here’s the fact. Bitcoin is a blockchain and anyone can trace all transactions all the way back to inception. That’s right also the criminals transaction. Do you know why criminals stopped using Bitcoin 😏

All jokes aside criminals prefer untraceable FIAT money. Criminals also use cars, mobile phones, escalators, aircraft’s etc. do you also claim these things were all invented for the sake of crime… asking for a friend 😏

✅ Bitcoin will crash again. Just like any other asset, equity or stock. No surprise Sherlock. But sitting on your hands saying naaah is simply stupid AF. Take what the market gives you and the Bitcoin market is about to go parabolic while you’re moaning.

✅ when Bitcoin crash that’s the time you buy up big and wait.

1) Buy low

2) sell high

3) Rinse

4) repeat

6,5 million percent so far and the worlds best performing asset ever in history. Even NVIDEA looks pale in comparison

Everyone gets their Bitcoin at the price they deserve. Perhaps you’re just not mature enough hence not getting your Bitcoin at the current price. That’s all perfectly fine. My job isn’t to convince you!! Because you will pay the price in one or the other way later 🤷‍♂️

The smart money gets it. Your investment regardless if it’s pension or something else gets it hence you’re getting it indirectly. Try to stop evolution and you shall fail. Perhaps try to stop AI too 😏

You are correct in so much that the US Dollar (fiat dollar / petro dollar) is dead.. and has been replaced as the world's reserve currency by the Yuan.. a new worldwide financial system is close to being announced.. and BRICS is being used as the codename for it whilst this operation remains covert.. I'd rather have my investments sitting in a bank in a BRICS country right now.. especially since there is going to be an imminent collapse of the US banking system.. and although your money might re-appear in the aftermath.. you may lose access to it for a lengthy period of time.. making life very uncomfortable indeed.. same goes for Uk or Euro held bank deposits.. i wouldn't be worried about a few bips either way on the exchange rate.. or what interest i can or cant earn.. @Andrew ******
exactly what I’ve been saying 100 times in this forum 😅

However I look at the dollar from two perspectives

1) currently the US dollar is down trending since the swing top on September 28. This downtrend is completely normal and expected as cyclical price action. This is what I call the macro economical chart structure. Eventually the DXY will trend up again in a few years

2) is more the long term holistically view. Because all currencies today are FIAT and because they’re all Ponzi schemes. It means that this circus will eventually come to an end. I call it the big reset and is something which happened many times in the history. Simple because a FIAT currency based on money debasement cannot sustain itself. US debt is increasing with a pace of 1 trillion dollars for every 100 days. Currently approaching 35 trillion. For comparison the US military budget is just shy of 1 trillion. Eventually all FIAT currencies will collapse. Make sure you’re in US dollar when that happens because the dollar will be last man standing. Just don’t expect this to happen anytime soon

My final comment is related to the wall of worries in this post. All the absurd moaning that BRICS will kill the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. That’s complete nonsense. BRICS can shout as much they like. At the end of the day they’re dwarfed by the United States and Europe. Furthermore BRICS consists purely of political unstable countries and troublesome countries. BRICS is a big fat nothing burger. It’s like saying a group of convicts will take control of the world

Finally we have the petrodollar discussion. Again a nothing burger. Yes it will weaken the dollar short term. But that’s about it. It will never change the world order

And repeating myself again… I’m not advocating for the US or their dollar. I’m just looking at the charts and data

People that make such conceited statements without doing some serious research should consider building themselves a padded cell.. preferably one without windows.. so they can't hurt themselves when they realise just how foolish they were in such a public forum.. and so that the world can't see the embarrassment on their face.. when the universe proves that my forecasts were pretty close to the reality that unfolds.. until then people can wallow in their self-acclaimed superiority and continue to massage their own egos.. but one day soon they'll realise they simply didn't understand the reality of the world we are living in!

Retired Wall St veteran. I designed HSTS Forex for the Wall St big boys as well as consult for JP Morgan, Wells, Citi, and GFI. Highly qualified to clearly state you’re a buffoon and are clueless about the current state of the US banking system, nor do you have any understanding how the health of large banking institutions are measured. The current FCF and reserves of the “too big to fail” institutions allows them to far exceed CET1 requirements. For the wanna-be’s, like you, please do tell how the system is on the verge of collapse. If there was a worldwide deep depression, the BRICs collapse, most of Europe’s largest institutions fail, and the US remains standing. And, regardless of the Petro agreement, when the sh1t hits the fan in the world, even the BRICs are running, not walking, to buy into the safety of the US. No wonder you’re not retired and had to migrate to a cheaper location as good financial pros have more money than they know what to do with and it’s a rough problem to have. But please, do tell all about your vast FOREX and banking client experience ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

However the Euro is not threatened as such. If we shall talk about the end of our current monetary system then I see a total collapse happening sometime in the future.

This will be known as the big reset. And since all FIAT currencies has a dependence it will mean a total collapse of the current monetary system. History repeats 🤷‍♂️ no FIAT currencies have ever survived. Particular the current system is a massive Ponzi scheme not seen worse in history

You can only get rid of central banks when there’s a true decentralized monetary system in place!! So talking about no CB is nonsense unless you at the same time say decentralization

Meanwhile most CBs are rushing to implement CBDC which will become the biggest big brother move in history. 1984 was a children’s game compared to the upcoming CBDCs

I do not see a backed currency system happening again 🤷‍♂️ that ended in 1972
Ally ************
@Per ********
I never suggested there would be a 'BRICS' currency.. or a one-world currency of any description for that matter.. countries that are declaring an intention to join BRICS are simply moving to an asset backed currency.. which is a requirement for them to participate in the new world financial system.. and it is imperative for nations to retain their own (completely independent) currency units in order to maintain sovereignty.. hence the Euro cannot survive since the EU is not a sovereign state.. but a federation designed with the sole intention of removing a member nation's sovereignty.. so all EU countries will have to revert to their native unit of currency.. and after collectively wiping out all national debt across the world.. and equalising exchange rates.. every country will have a clean slate to begin building a better future for it's people.. no more creating money out of thin air and lending it to govt's.. which has been the means by which CB's have exerted political control over nations in the past.. CB's are unnecessary since they only serve their paymasters.. the functions that may still be required can be absorbed by the Treasury division of a sitting govt.. but will be run by true representatives of the people.. not business men looking to grift an unsuspecting public.. the whole concept of banking has to change since it's been a den of inequity since inception.. and that change is coming fast.. people need to go to Rumble or Bitchute and search terms such as qfs and nesara/gesara to get informed!
Per *********

Meanwhile let’s talk about the BRICS currency.

Who control the currency?

Who decide the debasement policy

How will the debasement be controlled in relation to major financial events?

What about inflation?

A shared currency can ONLY work when it’s truly decentralized. No centralized currencies except the US dollar will ever make it as a new reserve currency

Now let’s talk about a decentralized currency 😏

Do you know how the US Dollar gained it's 'petro' status.. that the agreement for SA to sell it's oil ONLY in USD expired this month.. and that the only reason for any country in the world to hold USD reserves.. ie. to be able to purchase oil.. expires with it.. the agreement with SA elevated the US Dollar to become the world 'reserve currency'.. but today SA can now accept (and indeed prefer) BRICS currencies.. every nation will now be dumping their USD reserves since they have no compulsion to hold them.. a simple supply and demand equation!

It is far more inconvenient for these countries to be sanctioned by the USA, than to switch trading economy, hence the mass move away from the US dollar reserve.

Per *********
@Lisa ******
Directly from ChatGPT 😅

A reserve currency is a foreign currency that is held in significant quantities by governments and institutions as part of their foreign exchange reserves. It is used in international trade and financial transactions, and its stability and reliability make it a preferred medium for international settlements. The most prominent reserve currency is the US dollar, but other currencies like the euro, Japanese yen, British pound, and Chinese yuan also serve as reserve currencies to varying degrees. Having a currency used as a reserve provides significant economic benefits to the issuing country, including lower borrowing costs and greater economic influence globally.

you clearly don’t have a clue what you’re talking about 🤣🤣🤣

You keep repeating BRICS isn’t a currency. Listen dude… most people understand BRICS isn’t a currency. But perhaps the light bulb just flashed for you

In case you still don’t get it… the BRICS countries have been talking about the creation of a BRICS currency

This is old news but I’m glad you finally learned it

BRICS isn't a currency. 5 year olds know that and you don't.

Not sure what other investments would have any safe return in Thai. Everyday the dollar is dropping

maybe ...for a while ...but declines in currencies dont often happen quickly
Stephen *********
@Larry ******
Bitcoin is on an open ledger for all to see. Ask the FED for an open book. How many have lost on inflation? Stock market manipulation and currency manipulating? Put the dollar onto a candid system backed by something then you have a basis for existing. Until then, it will go the way of all currencies.
Per *********
@Stephen ********
spot on 🎯
Per *********
@Larry ******
FIAT currencies are the biggest scam in history. Pure Ponzi schemes. Not backed by anything and yet central banks continue debasing by a rate between 7 and 12%

Bitcoin inflation is less than 1.5%. What’s not like. Best performing asset class in history. Annual appreciation for the past 14 years is 150% on average

US dollar trending down. Interest cut within 3 months will help the DXY to further retrace. +6 trillion dollars sitting on the sideline waiting anxiously to be deployed

Life’s good 😊
Larry *******
@Stephen ********
Good try. How many people have lost money on bitcoin scams? BRICS is just a desperation move. The dollar is strong and getting stronger. There are no currencies that are backed by tangible assets. Quit trying to scam people.
Stephen *********
@Larry ******
the dollar is the scam..no audit, no oversight by government unlimited production, inflation and based on nothing. Your money is the banks property. A run on cash and your locked out.

Lower highs and lower lows

Major support broken several times
