If you are traveling imminently, you can request an emergency passport from the US embassy. It’s good for 1 year, & is a fully valid passport. If you apply for a new, regular passport while the emergency passport is still valid, there is no additional charge. Email them with “urgent” in the subject. This happened to me when moving from Hong Kong to Thailand. I emailed the US embassy in HK in a panic, no room left in passport, they told me to come in the next day for an emergency passport. Got it that day.
You apply at immigration for the Non-O 90 day visa, then when approved it converts to a 1-year retirement extension. You must be 50 years old, & have 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account. Some other requirements. There is a lot about this in this facebook group.
Thanks. I applied inside Thailand, no insurance required. I was merely asking literally what it’s called - O or O-A - because it was a question on a form I had to fill out.
You renew the passport when you don't have any travel plans & have time to get the new one back before doing any traveling. I had my 90-day check in coming up, so waited until after that to renew the passport, when I wouldn't need it for a month or 2. (Didn't take that long, just in case.)
I'm not an expert, but in my experience, only one of the people can register as owner. i.e. I registered as owner of the unit I co-own, & was then unable to register my husband as also an owner. So I need to report myself as resident, and also my husband when he returns from overseas. The paperwork - in addition to our papers from the purchase, we needed the number from the blue book.
