Hi all. Just want to clarify the timeline & rules for applying to convert from tourist visa or exempt to Non-O. My understanding is it takes 15 to 21 days after applying to receive the 90-day Non-O, & during that time you cannot travel outside of Thailand. Is that correct? Does the “under consideration” period sometimes take longer? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of converting a Tourist Visa or visa-exempt status to a Non-O visa involves applying at your local immigration office in Thailand. It typically takes 15 to 21 days to receive the 90-day Non-O visa, during which time you cannot travel outside of Thailand. The exact timeline may vary based on the immigration office's regulations and the amount of time remaining on your current visa.

Correct you can't travel outside of Thailand during that period. Your immigration office controls how much time you must have left on your current stay in order to apply, either 15 or 21 days depending on location. Normally you make the application and they hand you back your passport along with a receipt asking you to return on the last day of your current stamp
this is not necessarily on the last day of the current stay permit stamp. They rather ask the applicant to pick up the Non-Imm-O visa stamp 15 days after his application went into a "under consideration" period of 15 days
