How soon must my husband leave Thailand after canceling his OA visa extension?

Hi all. My husband has to cancel his OA extension because he’s been offered a paid position in Thailand, so will need to go to the Thai embassy in his home country to obtain the new visa. We’re in Bangkok. My question: after he goes to immigration to cancel the OA, how quickly does he have to leave Thailand? Are there a couple of days grace period or does he have to leave immediately? Thanks for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
After cancelling a Non-OA visa extension, the individual must leave Thailand the same day, as confirmed by the Immigration hotline.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I just got through on the Immigration hotline phone number, they said you do need to leave the same day as cancelation for a Non O-A. He's changing his flight to late-night to do it on the same day.
Jan ******************
You just cancel the extension of a Non O-A visa by leaving without a re-entry permit.

@Jan *****************
an OA visa is multi-entry. You don't need a re-entry permit. Your confused with the type O extension that does need a re-entry permit.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
No, you’re confused with the one year visa itself and the permission to stay the visa gives for up to a year after it’s expired. He’s not on a visa but an extension of stay which, needs a re-entry permit.
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
you are correct in that respect, but his isn't expiring, he is cancelling it. There is a big difference concerning the 7 days to leave stamp. If he wants seven more days just wait seven days to cancel it. He's taking a job. His current one year entry isn't expiring. There is a big difference.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
Yes, but that’s why I asked if he’s got a re-entry permit. If not he could just leave and his permission to stay would be terminated as he leaves. The issue now it’s the re-entry permit on his permission to stay, -not the visa which already is expired.
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
All type OA visas are multi-entry. There is no need for any re-entry permit with the type OA visa. That is something you are overlooking

@Kool ******
on the initial year of the visa the multiple entry remains valid, after the visa expires so does the multiple entry benefit. So, on year two and any extensions, you must buy a re-entry permit.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
This is basic knowledge;

#A one year Non O-A visa has multiple entries while the visa is valid for the first year.

#If you get stamped in for another year short time before the visa itself expires -which is OP’s case-, you’ll need a re-entry permit for your second year to maintain your stay, regardless of the initial visa itself was a multiple one.

@Jan *****************
don't try to make up situations that weren't mentioned at all by the OP. There was no mention at all that his visa was expired, and he was on his final one year entry. You made that up to fit your agenda.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
You should read his comment more properly before you do comment on other people like this. OP is in fact on his second year extension or permission to stay of the Non O-A visa. That’s why he also already has purchased multiple re-entry permit for his stay.
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
ok. I stand corrected. He still has to leave immediately when he cancels it as his last entry isn't expiring.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
Ok, i don’t have a complete overview, if he can’t get the 7 days extension denied stamp you sometimes get when you cancel a permission to stay, I guess that’s the case.
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
the 7 days to leave by stamps are given to people who's visa, or extension, is expiring, like lots of business people getting laid off with no warning, or tourists that can't get another extension, but try to apply for one anyway (and is used the most), when their entry is about to expire, not when they intentionally cancel their entry stamp.

@Jan *****************
Thanks - but he already has re-entry permit.

All he can do is go to the Immigration Office which issued the re-entry permit and ask is it possible to have it cancelled

@Graham *****
He did, they told him to cancel OA at immigration. My question is after canceling the OA, how long does he have to leave Thailand? I mean even a day or two, or does he have to leave that same day?
Wannikea *********
@Bennett *******
he has until midnight. But, he can apply for any extension 1900 baht, which will be denied, and get a 7 day extension denied stamp. Depending on the office it will countdown from the date he got the denial stamp.

@Wannikea ********
Thanks. He got a late night flight, will check in before midnight.
Wannikea *********
@Bennett *******
he needs to go through passport control before midnight.
Kool *******
@Bennett *******
he has to leave immediately. In his situation there is no 7 days to leave extension. The day he is ready to leave he cancels it, not before.

@Kool ******
Thanks. By what you are saying, he needs to go directly from immigration to the airport & fly out the same day as cancellation?
Kool *******
@Bennett *******
not at all. He's changing to a type B extension from a type OA entry. He cancels the OA, and immediately applies for his type B. He shouldn't have to leave.
John **********
@Kool ******
can he actually do that? I'm aware it can be done when applying for the next extension of stay but you can't apply for an extension until your down to the last 30 days (45 in a few places).

@Kool ******
Oh. At immigration they told him he'd have to apply for the new visa at the Thai embassy in his home country.
Kool *******
@Bennett *******
that's strange, because you can get a type B visa from any neighbouring Thai embassy.

@Kool ******
Oh. Well he's from Taiwan, so it's not that far anyway.
Graham ******
@Bennett *******
but "they" were Immigration, there is a 7 day stamp for extension denied to leave Thailand so if they cancel his extension I guess he'll get this

@Graham *****
Yes. We don’t ask this particular question while there. (Just thought of it now.) So hoping someone here may know how it works.

@Bennett *******
single or multiple entry?
