I have done that a few times :) One time, as I said "ao mai?" the person looked at me like I was some sort of maniac.

No problem as such. I was told 7-11 had some sort of poster where you could attach them for other people to collect. Haven't been able to spot that yet :)

You can also look at something like booking.com. There are plenty options where you can cancel before any transaction actually occurs. I'm sure you can just show a week or two booked. Perhaps you can email the embassy and find out.

Have you tried different browsers? Seems to me many Thai related web developments have issues in some browsers.

It was in February. Usual passport copies. Onward travel. Bank print outs. And a copy of my lease. That was it, I think.

You could go to another country and apply for a SETV. Ho Chi Minh was pretty friendly.
