Work permit noob question: If you want to convert from a tourist visa to a visa supporting a work permit, do you have to leave the country? 

Did have a look around and fairly certain the answer is yes! But would love a confirmation.

No, you can do this at an authorized immigration office, but the requirements are much more than a Thai Consulate and that is why almost all employers send their staff abroad.
