Work permit noob question: If you want to convert from a tourist visa to a visa supporting a work permit, do you have to leave the country?
Did have a look around and fairly certain the answer is yes! But would love a confirmation.
Thanks in advance!
PS: Hope you're all coping reasonably with the situation.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can convert a tourist visa to a work permit visa at an authorized immigration office in Thailand without the need to leave the country, provided you meet the necessary requirements and your employer supplies the necessary documents.
No, you can do this at an authorized immigration office, but the requirements are much more than a Thai Consulate and that is why almost all employers send their staff abroad.
