Hi everyone,

My family and I (my wife and our two kids) are planning to move to Thailand for an undetermined period, in about two years. I just wanted to run my plan by you and get some feedback to see if it makes sense.

I own a company back home in Canada, which provides me with a regular salary. I'm considering applying for the DTV visa — would this be a suitable option in my case? Also, would my family be able to join me under this visa? If needed, I could also put my wife on the company payroll.

Lastly, would our kids be able to attend school while we're in Thailand?

Thanks a lot for your help!

So I read in a few different places that if you have questions about applying because you have a specific situation that's not the norm, that you should contact the embassy where you plan to apply, so that you can be sure you have everything in order according to that embassy's requirements. Well, my plan is to go to Cambodia to apply. And so I emailed the embassy last week on Sunday. I was expecting they may read it on Monday and reply like on Monday or Tuesday. But it's already Sunday again ( a whole week passed) and still no answer from them. Anyone experience email communication with embassy's like this in which it's just a couple of questions needing answering so I can continue my application prep? What's normal as far as waiting on an email reply?

Does the DTV bar you from conducting any work in Thailand OR working for a Thailand-based company? For example, I also do professional speaking. I'm American. Could I get hired to speak in-person at a corporate event or retreat in Thailand that is put on by an American company?

Is it common to get questioned when re entering the Kingdom? I come in and out a few times a year. This time I did 6 weeks here then flew to Taipei for 10 days, when I came in this time he asked how long I intended to stay and wanted to see my onward tkt.

I was planning to do another 6 weeks and go to the Philippines for a few weeks before returning again. Feeling a bit apprehensive now.

I hear people doing border runs for a day without any problems.

Just wanted voice my appreciation for this group and how helpful it is. Managed to open a bank account with my Non-O Visa. All the info on here has been invaluable, only got one knock back for a ridiculous reason, ie middle initial on my driver license wasn’t acceptable. Next bank, no problem. Shout out to Brandon Thurkettle for answering mine and a lot of newbie questions. For anyone in BKK in the same situation. Go to main Bangkok Bank at Emporium on Sukhumvit. Not sure if it will help, but I went on Sunday at 1pm, and I was the only customer. Best of luck to y’all

Anyone on a soft power DTV visa for medical treatment was asked when reentering the country after the 6 months for any medical paperwork to justify you're still on treatment? I have the original treatment recommendation/ prescription but I don't have the future appointments proof.
