So I read in a few different places that if you have questions about applying because you have a specific situation that's not the norm, that you should contact the embassy where you plan to apply, so that you can be sure you have everything in order according to that embassy's requirements. Well, my plan is to go to Cambodia to apply. And so I emailed the embassy last week on Sunday. I was expecting they may read it on Monday and reply like on Monday or Tuesday. But it's already Sunday again ( a whole week passed) and still no answer from them. Anyone experience email communication with embassy's like this in which it's just a couple of questions needing answering so I can continue my application prep? What's normal as far as waiting on an email reply?

For specific situations you better communicate and apply in your home country, but even then it is sometimes difficult.
Asking questions to embassies that are popular by people doing visa runs like you, is almost impossible.

Forget about contacting embassies... They are almost impossible to reach by email or phone before applying. You'll have better chances if you have an issue with an ongoing procedure.

Most embassies do not reply to email.
Your best bet is finding out if they have a Facebook page and messaging them there.
If that's not an option, you can try calling, but that's got only slightly better odds than email.
