Is the DTV visa suitable for my family moving to Thailand, and can my kids attend school?

Hi everyone,

My family and I (my wife and our two kids) are planning to move to Thailand for an undetermined period, in about two years. I just wanted to run my plan by you and get some feedback to see if it makes sense.

I own a company back home in Canada, which provides me with a regular salary. I'm considering applying for the DTV visa — would this be a suitable option in my case? Also, would my family be able to join me under this visa? If needed, I could also put my wife on the company payroll.

Lastly, would our kids be able to attend school while we're in Thailand?

Thanks a lot for your help!

First of all, you cannot plan for 2 years from now. We don't know what visas will and won't exist in 2 years. It's possible there are new visas, and it's possible visas that exist now don't exist then.

IF the DTV visa still exists, then you might be able to apply for it depending on what the requirements are in 2 years. Your wife and children would be able to apply for dependent DTV visas if it still works the same was as it does now.

BUT some schools require their students to be on an education visa, so if you want your kids to go to school, you would need to find a school for them first and find out what their requirements are for attendance. Beware that school is the highest expense for most families, and can easily cost more than 1 million baht per year, per student.
