An IDP (it's a permit not a licence) is just a translation of your national licence. A Thai licence is written in Thai and English, and is accepted for driving in the UK, for 3 months.

Your advice is invaluable. As a longtime expat, I used to use ThaiVisa for visa advice and a legend on that site who will be familiar to some was Ubon Joe. Although anyone could advise, you knew you were getting the correct advice from Ubon Joe. Sadly, he passed away earlier this year. This FB group has taken the place of ThaiVisa (for me) but more importantly Tod Daniels is the name that now carries the weight of knowledge and experience of Thai visa matters that you know can be trusted. The other moderators are great too, but it's in Tod we trust!

A visa cannot be renewed. You can apply for an extension for a non-B visa (for a year) but you'll need assistance from your employer.

Yes, after 3 months you will need a licence from the country you're living in.

If you have a Thai licence you can use it in most countries, like UK, US, Australia.
