The OP said in his comment that he will be working legally in Malaysia so that means outside of his countries official work (embassy jobs) you need to hold a residency permit in Said county so that means he can obtain the METV at the Thai embassy/consulate in Malaysia… he does not have to go all the back to the UK

The METV can be obtained either in your home country [Passport holding country] or a country where you are a a Permanent resident of, if you are working legally in Malaysia and hold a residency card then you can obtain the METV from the Thai consulate/embassy…

It just means that if you take a Thai class the immigration officer will ask you normal questions in Thai to calculate your language learning skills…but I wonder if you take a Muay Thai class if they will bring in a Muay Thai fighter to spar with you at immigration to test your Muay Thai combat skills .

If you’re in bkk you can go right when you land in BKK as long as you land during immigration business hours and you can make it there before they close….
