I have a friend with an Irish passport that wants to know about extensions.
His question is can he get a regular 30 day extension for his 30 day visa waiver stamp or does he have to get the letter from his embassy for the stuck in place Corona Virus extension....I’ve told him to get the ‘Rona extension and be done with it

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Irish passport holder can initially apply for a regular 30-day extension of stay after their visa waiver stamp. However, if their departure flight is cancelled, they should obtain a support letter from their embassy to secure an additional extension at the immigration office.
First you get the normal Extension of Stay and if your leaving flight is cancelled, you apply at your Embassy for the support letter to apply for an extra Extension of Stay at immigration office
