Multiple entry Tourist visa

Hey guys I'm an Irish national currently in Ireland. But in January I'll be moving to KL, Malaysia - living and working there legally.

I want to spend a lot of time in Thailand, so I'd like to get the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa to start...

M question is do I have to get that visa in my home country Ireland, like now?

Or can I apply for it in KL when I get there in January?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Irish national currently in Ireland is considering applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand. They are moving to Malaysia in January and want to know if the visa must be obtained in Ireland or if it can be applied for in Malaysia. Responses indicate that the METV typically needs to be obtained in the applicant's home country (Ireland), but it can also be secured in Malaysia if they hold a residency card there. Many suggest using a visa-exempt entry if planning short trips to Thailand.

If you're only doing short trips then visa exempts is ideal for you. There are no limitations for entry by air ( 2 by land in a calendar year).

I lived and worked in KL for 5 years (British passport) and came to Thailand at least once a month. Always visa exempt. Never a problem. You don’t need a multi-entry tourist visa to do what you want to do unless you’re wanting to stay longer than 60 (

d + 30d) each time but then you’d not really be living in KL would you.

It factually does not make a lot of difference anymore, not as it used to be. As (being Irish) you are eligible to get visa electronically / online, without the need to send in your passport or to even go to some embassy in person. Get the METV as an e-visa here:

The METV can be obtained either in your home country [Passport holding country] or a country where you are a a Permanent resident of, if you are working legally in Malaysia and hold a residency card then you can obtain the METV from the Thai consulate/embassy…

Do you mean just come in with the visa on arrival thing for 30 days, and extend 30?

The METV will only be able to be got in your home country (well for you technically from London). You can get a SETV from KL or just enter visa exempt. If it doesn’t look like you’re trying to buck the system with long stays in Thailand without a valid visa you probably won’t have an issue with exempt entries.

at least I give full information based off verbiage from the Thai embassy websites and I comprehend what people are asking from their OP while not making people fly all over the world to obtain a visa….

If you believe that Thai embassy websites give accurate information then you need to open your eyes or read some stuff on the visa forums here.

when it comes to visas yes the embassies/consulates give accurate information…you must be talking about the Royal Thai immigration that works on its own sets of rules and doesn’t care that a valid issued Thai visa in your passport is actually valid…they are two separate entities that don’t work well together…so that is a disconnect…many people have received the dreaded red stamp at the embassy and the immigration officer has stamped them into Thailand so it goes hand in hand

if you hold residency in another country then that probably would be your “home” country. I didn’t say you can only get it in the country that issued your passport.

He specifically said he’s Irish. Living in Ireland. There is no Thai embassy or consulate in Ireland. London handles visa applications from Irish people living in Ireland.

Perhaps. When he has physically moved there and gained residency then probably he could. That wasn’t what the OP asked and I don’t speculate on “what ifs”.

Speculate all you like. Whether the OP actually moves to Malaysia or he changed his mind. I don’t know. I don’t care. If at this point in time he wants a METV he CAN only get one from London. Good night.

The OP said in his comment that he will be working legally in Malaysia so that means outside of his countries official work (embassy jobs) you need to hold a residency permit in Said county so that means he can obtain the METV at the Thai embassy/consulate in Malaysia… he does not have to go all the back to the UK
