Thanks for sharing. I’m also in Chiang Mai, and I’m thinking at least for this first one I will do a border run. It also seems far too complicated to set everything up perfectly when I can spend half the time flying out and back in. That 30 days rule is kind of lame. Many of us have multiple bank accounts… oh well. I guess it is their attempt at fraud prevention so that’s good to know. Thanks for sharing really. It’s a good update.
Frequent visa extensions and border runs waste a ton of time and fair bit of money. The DTV saves you time and money. It also guarantees your entries a lot better than a regular tourist visa. There are plenty of people that have border bouncesdfor a while , but plenty have came across issues one day. It works for 90 days, maybe 180, but do you really want to do that for years? Of course if you’re not committed to 5 years, a tourist visa + 30 extension is an excellent choice. After that though if you’re thinking long term the DTV is a lot more secure and better choice.
I think you can showcase you work portfolio, at least for the application process. However if they require an active contract to extend in country, then that would be a bit hard, and a border bounce might be the easier option.
I don’t see anything about elite visas not being able to work remotely in the article, however it wouldn’t be a good idea to not explicitly state it. I know several elite holders that do work remotely, and they are slightly salty that they didn’t wait for the DTV or just get it. I remember a couple years back there was discussion about the price increase which got a lot of pure people to get the elite visa asap- it actually is a pretty nice option if you get the 20-year option, at that time, not sure about current pricing.
agreed, of course if you actually will do an activity for your stay it is no problem. But many people said they will do Muay Thai then cancel after coming…
