Hi,

today i want to share my current extension process for the DTV Visa in Krabi.

First of all the attached pictures show the new official Immigration Bureau Order No. 4/2025 dated 13 January 2025 which is specifically for the DTV extension. (They only let me take a picture of the workcation page after a short discussion)… This is the document they use as a guideline. It seems to be an updated version of the old Order from July 2024 which has been shared here multiple times. The translation isnt official / just a ChatGPT result, so dont take it for granted!

My Process:

I went there 2 times now because they requested additional documents, specifically about the „Evidence of Residence“. So thats probably my own fault for not having them but i also didnt know. I will list the document requirements below. I go again tomorrow or friday to finish the process and will post the final update. (Krabi Immigration: come 08:20, open 08:30, be the first one and done quickly)

Documents needed:

- Passport

- Passport copy (biodata + stamp)

- Passport photo (dont accept digital)

- eVisa copy

- bank statement (30+ days) showing 500k (guideline says having it for 30+ days in the same account)

- certificate of employment (workcation / letter from HR) (recently dated!)

- TM30 (online seems okay in Krabi, no print. different in other provinces!)

- Rental contract (make sure its signed by the house owner in the house book!)

- House book of the rental house (copy)

- House book of the landlords house (copy)

- ID card copy of the landlord (make sure names match with house books and contract!)

- Pictures of me in front of the house and inside the house. (they want to see the full house from the outside not just the entrance. house number should be visible)

- 1900 Baht

So all of this residence stuff seems very overcomplicated and made me go there 3 times now. Picture wasnt sufficient (only had entrance and house number and me visible; want to see the whole house area). House owner Id i didnt have. Rental contract was from the son and not the mother who is in the house book. Photocopies + Passport Photo now needed in physical form. Previously was okay digitaly in Krabi. They clearly dont want to do the extension and try to make it as hard as possible 😀 but they will do when you present all of these documents. Maybe easier when you have a hotel and get those

documents from them. (i live in a rental house)… its similar to the other longstay visa extensions.

I hope this helps others that want to extend their DTV inside Thailand. If you know what they want to see, then you can fairly quickly get everything done. And btw: besides the residency stuff this is the required documents they already told me 3 months ago. For all the non-believers :D

Speculation: Since the letter from the company has to be new: i would strongly guess that for soft power you will show an activity thats ongoing or happening in the next 180 days!

Makes a marriage visa extension look easy and for those of us who entered Thailand in

the COE , quarantine etc look not too bad.

OK, but I would still prefer to take a quick trip to Malaysia than to go to the Immigration Department 3 times because apparently my papers are not enough for them. To each their own. I'm not doing that stupid extension process.
Michael ********
Man why do people put themselves through this, it astounds me. Just hop on a flight somewhere nice for a week and fly back in

For real though, why not do a border run and have a nice trip? I genuinely don't get your logic behind wanting to go to all this hassle to renew it within thailand for 0 benefit?

i think its good to learn about the process and share the experience with others. especially when its not too crazy effort for me to visit the immigration office and prepare the documents. i can understand when you stay in bangkok or chonburi and have to deal with the sheer madness there. in Krabi you can get things done very quickly.

i guess the process will be similar in 1 year so i could also profit from this down the road.

my biggest obstacle is the part with the residence proof. but its the same for retirement visa extensions. its good to know.

surely i could book a return flight to malaysia for 3500-4000 baht from KBV.
Lee *******
Thank you for posting. As someone who is currently in Krabi, I believe I will be booking a couple of flights to avoid the mess of going to immigration.

Thanks for the info 🙏

Seems like a hustle. Plus if you are from a non-English country you need to translate all the documents in Thai/English. A short holiday somewhere seems like the best option.

@Kevin ******
100% a run outside Thailand is the best option right now. Nice little break.

I’ve got a headache just reading this post. Dude just head to Krabi town and jump on the bus to Sadao, will cost you less than 1,900 baht and will a more pleasurable day out 😊

can do for sure but then the DTV group will still lack this valuable information

absolutely, it’s very valuable information.

Exactly. Stressed out reading it never mind doing it.... border run is the way to go

Thanks brother, at least we know what we can expect.

easy there, that was a the KRABI immigration office and little to do with the other 80+ immigration offices scattered around the country and what they will imagine the requirements will be

better not to extend

Yes. border run

Exactly. That is a massive "Tell" from immigration. They certainly thought that one through:-)

easier to just fly somewhere every 6 months.

@Barry *****
I am sure friendly borders will become known and maybe agencies can provide a service just like they do for other visa types?
Greg ********
@Barry *****
Nothing stopping a border entry officer asking for documenting. Might not be as detailed as an extension but they have full discretion. Never say never.

@Barry *****
Yeah this seems like the path of least resistance

After all the OP's brand name is "nomad".
Thiri ******
So the extension process needs more documents than the application process? 😖 It seems like the 6-month multiple-entry tourist visa with discounted visa fee. 🙂
Sweet *****
@Thiri *****
interesting comment, are the embassies still offering the multi entry tourist visa? 🤔
Thiri ******
@Sweet ****
Thai embassy in Myanmar is still offering it.
Sweet *****
@Thiri *****
ok thanks, that would make sense why it’s mentioned on the Myanmar embassy site and not Cambodia, as Myanmar nationals don’t get 60 days visa exempt, Cambodians do and can pretty much do multiple bounces in a year anyway.
Greg ********
@Sweet ****
I believe they are. They still offer single entry tourist visas to countries with 60 day visa exempt. A rather irate Bogan was screaming about this. He thought he bought an ETA but is was a Tourist Vksa. :-)
Sweet *****
@Greg *******
yes I’m aware they are still offering 60 day TR visas, they need to continue it for the nationalities that don’t qualify for visa exempt, just would be interesting to see if the multi entry one is still available.
Greg ********
@Sweet ****
Why would they stop it?
Sweet *****
@Greg *******
I’m not suggesting they have stopped it, it was a question not a statement. Strangely it’s not listed as an option on the Phnom Penh embassy website.
Adam *******
@Sweet ****
but you can still make it

It is a good visa for those wanting a longer stay in SEA with Thailand as a base.

Great and detailed info that is very useful for others. That is a lot of work for an extension. I totally agree they are making this as complex as possible. This is especially so with the Blue Book etc. I have never had to show that for B or Retirement Visa. This is either to obtain or extend. Reading between the lines Immigration do not seems to be fans of the DTV - well we knew that but those proves it. :-)

@Greg *******
yes they always ask me „why you not fly out and come back???“ 🤣🤣
Greg ********
@Dany *******
It is crazy. I hate being a pessimmist and pissing on someone's chips but more documentation than just you visa might be required at an entry point.
Greg ******
@Greg *******
Get ready for the next "surprise".

@Greg *****
Exactly. Reading between the lines it looks like Immigration have out a lot of thought into the "Rules".MFA just had a "Policy". Rules trumppolicy and Sheldon Cooper would say :-)

hahahah

Where to run 😄
Greg ********
@AllSabai *****
Well border runner do know where to go. At least their facilitators do. Maybe these services will pop up for DTV holders. With 80k holders and growing a nice little side hustle :-)
Dany ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Greg *******
there is no 80k holders
Greg ********
@Dany *******
I am going off one unverified report in Pattaya Mail so you may be 100% correct. How many do you think there are? 80k is a cellular high given only 100k retirement visas and the length they have been around
Dany ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Greg *******
it was 11k in november. offical source from MFA…
Greg ********
@Dany *******
I remember the interview and 12k. I thought it might accelerated but 80k 2 months later was a stretch. Pattaya Mail is not exactly a reliable source
AllSabai ******
@Greg *******
It is the backfire to just and say haaaaaay

10,000 THB and i get 5 years

And no need agents or any one

I am over the sky 😄😄

Let's see if you have wings to fly then
Tod *********
Quite the lesson in hoop jumping 😮 which begs the question why wouldn't you just bounce out/back and get a new 180 day entry stamp and not have to do ANY of that stuff?

You a glutton for punishment or you just wanna prove you could get one 180 day extension on this entry you're on? 🙂
Michael *******
@Tod ********
they will probably ask it later when you go in/out ... ( not everybody and maybe not so much documentation )
Tod *********
@Michael ******
and now you're just speculating and imagining how it MIGHT be, 🙂 as I said I know someone whose been in and out over a dozen times since they got the DTV end of July and they've never been asked a single thing comin' back in
Barry ******
Those requirements is the bureaucrats way of saying leave me alone or suffer the consequences

i just wanted to learn about the process and share my experience here. is that wrong to help out others?

especialy in Krabi where you have literaly no queue in the morning. it takes only a few minutes, so why not? its not really an effort. maybe two hours in total to get the documents all done and a photo taken. plus i get to eat a nice breakfast in Town :) and i would believe i could do it again in 12months and profit from this experience… btw: for retirement visa extensions they ask the same things in terms of residence. friends went 4 times… :D
James ********
@Dany *******
there's NO second 180 Day extension of stay as I understand it. Need to bounce out and reenter Thailand to get new 180 day stamp.

Ask your Thai Immigration office about a second 180 day extension. Thanks 👍
Klaus *********
@James *******
I guess he knows that exactly. You might got it wrong. After the extension you can stay another 180 days. Then you must leave Thailand and can reenter for a new 180 days, which can be extended also only one time for 180 days. So that’s 360 days (around 12 months) between the 2 extensions, exactly like he described it. Can be also longer depending on how long he’s staying outside of Thailand.
James ********
@Klaus ********
thanks for your helpful reply ✅
Tod *********
@Klaus ********
yep, that's why I deleted my comment (y)
Sascha **********
@James *******
that's why he said 'in 12 months', in 6 months he will have to go out and back in, next in-country extension would then be in 12 months 😉
James ********
@Sascha *********
my interpretation of what he said differs from yours. But that's okay 👍

@Tod ********
yeah definitely a little holiday in another country seems a better option day by day, I still have 5 weeks on my stamp so starting to plan now
