What are the updated document requirements for extending a DTV Visa in Krabi, Thailand?

Hi,

today i want to share my current extension process for the DTV Visa in Krabi.

First of all the attached pictures show the new official Immigration Bureau Order No. 4/2025 dated 13 January 2025 which is specifically for the DTV extension. (They only let me take a picture of the workcation page after a short discussion)… This is the document they use as a guideline. It seems to be an updated version of the old Order from July 2024 which has been shared here multiple times. The translation isnt official / just a ChatGPT result, so dont take it for granted!

My Process:

I went there 2 times now because they requested additional documents, specifically about the „Evidence of Residence“. So thats probably my own fault for not having them but i also didnt know. I will list the document requirements below. I go again tomorrow or friday to finish the process and will post the final update. (Krabi Immigration: come 08:20, open 08:30, be the first one and done quickly)

Documents needed:

- Passport

- Passport copy (biodata + stamp)

- Passport photo (dont accept digital)

- eVisa copy

- bank statement (30+ days) showing 500k (guideline says having it for 30+ days in the same account)

- certificate of employment (workcation / letter from HR) (recently dated!)

- TM30 (online seems okay in Krabi, no print. different in other provinces!)

- Rental contract (make sure its signed by the house owner in the house book!)

- House book of the rental house (copy)

- House book of the landlords house (copy)

- ID card copy of the landlord (make sure names match with house books and contract!)

- Pictures of me in front of the house and inside the house. (they want to see the full house from the outside not just the entrance. house number should be visible)

- 1900 Baht

So all of this residence stuff seems very overcomplicated and made me go there 3 times now. Picture wasnt sufficient (only had entrance and house number and me visible; want to see the whole house area). House owner Id i didnt have. Rental contract was from the son and not the mother who is in the house book. Photocopies + Passport Photo now needed in physical form. Previously was okay digitaly in Krabi. They clearly dont want to do the extension and try to make it as hard as possible 😀 but they will do when you present all of these documents. Maybe easier when you have a hotel and get those

documents from them. (i live in a rental house)… its similar to the other longstay visa extensions.

I hope this helps others that want to extend their DTV inside Thailand. If you know what they want to see, then you can fairly quickly get everything done. And btw: besides the residency stuff this is the required documents they already told me 3 months ago. For all the non-believers :D

Speculation: Since the letter from the company has to be new: i would strongly guess that for soft power you will show an activity thats ongoing or happening in the next 180 days!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of extending a DTV (Digital Nomad) Visa in Krabi involves multiple visits to the Immigration Bureau due to specific document requirements related to residence evidence. Key documents needed include a valid passport, eVisa, bank statement showing 500,000 THB for over 30 days, rental contract, TM30 form, and various identity proofs from landlords. The author shares their experience facing bureaucracy at the Krabi Immigration office, highlighting the complexity of the residency-proof requirements and the potential for challenges in the extension process.

Does this mean the 500k need to stay there 30 days before application or just to have it up to 30 days in the bank afterwards

a guy on a DTV I know, asked for the requirements for the extension on Immigration Hua Hin. They listed about similar requirements than the ones you mentioned, but what was added to this was their requirement that the 500,000 THB must sit in a Thai bank account in his sole name. Since you cannot open a bank account on a DTV visa without greasing the palms of an agent, because it is a tourist visa type, this is the typical Catch22 situation. So he decided to just do the border bounce and get stamped the next 180 days, no questions asked

Andreas Mueller Many of us already held Thai bank accounts prior to going onto the DTV, but you're right that for those that don't, it's going to mean a border run instead.

I’d also like to add that it might be worth using an agent to extend this visa… Depends on how much it costs but I value my time a lot… If I/you don’t want to vacation outside Thailand for a few days then an agent extension might make things smooth and fast.

yeah but i mean its very similar to the retirement extension. you can surely use an agent and pay the money. same same…. and it also depends on the immigration office you have to use.. Krabi is usualy very fast. not much time lost in reality.

I've already asked my agent and she said to do everything it is 14K baht. I've told my GF that I'll take her to Vietnam with me for a holiday. So I'll probably do that but good to know my agent can do it.

Yes but only 3 times more than what they charge for a 30 day extension. She said if you only need help showing the 500K then the price is 5K. And it must be in Thai bank. Chonburi Immigration.

I forgot the 30 day extension price was that high. Def not worth it. I think the Retirement extension is around 14k if you do not have the money and about 7k if you have it

Thanks for sharing this
@Dany *******
, really! Ignore the hate, I don’t get why people have to be so toxic. I for one appreciate your persistence in documenting and sharing the results with us. Well, it’s a bit disappointing and frustrating. Personally I hope for better luck up here in chiang mai. At the same time I might just take a vacation to Vietnam if things are still looking suboptimal.

I was really hoping it would be like before with easy and fast 1-2 hour tourist visa extensions.

Let’s hope this is a bit of a fluke and the newness is overwhelming them hence all the work… I personally am not too excited to go vacation to anywhere else, I’m quite happy here in Thailand. At the same time until this gets sorted out it might be good for my first 6 months to just pop out.

Thanks again for the report. People like you bring a lot of value to this group!

I would attend one class, get pictures and learn a few Thai herb names. Even though I think if they check anything it will be the 500K in your mobile banking.

Yeah. The 500k is the easiest to check and probably most important one-to-one them. Might they give you a shorter period with less money? This thing is all over the place and obviously a rush job by MFA and no consultation with other departments.

I think without proof of 500K they will stamp you in visa exemption. And say you need it next time to get 6 months.

Never considered that. It is getting awfully complex. I have just been making appointment requests for the BOI Smart "S" Visa. I think it might be better option for me. Can move to other BOI Visa in 2 years if successful. If not back on retirement visa.

Reading between the lines it os obvious Immifration Dept opinion on the DTV. They are making extensions much harder for DTV that Retirement or B. Those extra residence requirements for one. I am right now researching the BOI Smart "S" option - I think it suits me better.

, not just the initial 180 days, though. You might have to have proof of ongoing activities and payment/booking. This is easily asked for at an entry point. I doubt providers of these activities or agents will be providing this for free. It is an ongoing income stream for them.

That one does have a 5 year programme. However not all embassies approve it. As for herb experts they might just get asked questions on entry. What is the Thai names for this plant? Be like the Ed visa and language. Would be a pity though as the people running that school seem quite genuine and want to teach about Thai agriculture

i think its good to learn about the process and share the experience with others. especially when its not too crazy effort for me to visit the immigration office and prepare the documents. i can understand when you stay in bangkok or chonburi and have to deal with the sheer madness there. in Krabi you can get things done very quickly.

i guess the process will be similar in 1 year so i could also profit from this down the road.

my biggest obstacle is the part with the residence proof. but its the same for retirement visa extensions. its good to know.

surely i could book a return flight to malaysia for 3500-4000 baht from KBV.

I can assure you for retirement visa extensions I have never had landlords blue book etc All that is needed is a copy of the rental contract. None of these

- House book of the rental house (copy)

- House book of the landlords house (copy)

- ID card copy of the landlord (make sure names match with house books and contract!)

Great and detailed info that is very useful for others. That is a lot of work for an extension. I totally agree they are making this as complex as possible. This is especially so with the Blue Book etc. I have never had to show that for B or Retirement Visa. This is either to obtain or extend. Reading between the lines Immigration do not seems to be fans of the DTV - well we knew that but those proves it. :-)

especialy in Krabi where you have literaly no queue in the morning. it takes only a few minutes, so why not? its not really an effort. maybe two hours in total to get the documents all done and a photo taken. plus i get to eat a nice breakfast in Town :) and i would believe i could do it again in 12months and profit from this experience… btw: for retirement visa extensions they ask the same things in terms of residence. friends went 4 times… :D

there's NO second 180 Day extension of stay as I understand it. Need to bounce out and reenter Thailand to get new 180 day stamp.

Ask your Thai Immigration office about a second 180 day extension. Thanks 👍

I guess he knows that exactly. You might got it wrong. After the extension you can stay another 180 days. Then you must leave Thailand and can reenter for a new 180 days, which can be extended also only one time for 180 days. So that’s 360 days (around 12 months) between the 2 extensions, exactly like he described it. Can be also longer depending on how long he’s staying outside of Thailand.
