Well it was never enforced like it has been lately.

When I did them years back, the 20k requirement didn't exist. You could also get double and triple entry visas then too.

When I did them in the past I always used thai visa service as mentioned in previous posts. They were really good.

I believe they must return to their home country to renew their visa.

I just go to my.local immigration office. The service at the airports is clearly unreliable in terms of whether they're open or not.

Yes have been to Nonthaburi office many times. Best is either first thing at 9 or at 1pm when they reopen after lunch

I did it by plane and no problem at all. A great place to stay is Lanis House by the pond. About a 10 minute tuk tuk ride to the embassy and 15-20 from the airport. It's right in the center of the cafe and food area one block from the river.
