if you fly to Udon thani, whats it like getting to Vientiane/thru the border by bus/van?
Tod *********
I was able to take the early morning flight to Udon, get the mini van to the border, cross over and get to the thai consulate in plenty of time to turn in my application.
The following afternoon I was able to pick up my passport, get to the border, stamp into thailand and get back to the Udon airport in plenty of time to catch the early evening flight back to Bangkok

there's a mini van parked out in the parking lot of the airport that runs people to the border at Nong Khai.

jump on the train to Nongkhai and cross the border yourself. Its easy
Rhys **********
just jump on a tuk tuk - they are all waiting at the nongkhai train station to take you to the border. They know what you want - there is no other reason why you would be going to Nongkhai

and then find your way from the border to Vientiane 14 km away ;)

Except for the Karaoke that makes the ground shake from about 8PM onwards, it is a nice hotel.

I see. I will be going on my own in two weeks, flying to V and then doing leg work to and from E by taxi or whatever. Is this hotel far from E do you know?

Daokham Hotel......because it was up to standard accomodation for a change and no worries about the distance to Embassy, because the Agency "covers" that too.
here is the list from the website from Embassy in Vientiane what is needed to apply for a visa, I not see 20.000 Thb on a account in the list: For applicant who wishes to work for an academic institute; as full or part-time teacher, tutor or teaching assistant, documents required are;
1. Official letter from the Ministry of Education of Thailand, or other sub-authorities concerned, approving the employment of foreign academic personnel
2. Recommendation letter from the institution addressed to the Embassy (stating about the employment and visa application) and be accompanied with the certified copy of the endorser's ID
3. Employment contract
4. Form of the Employment Certification
5. Copy of registration certificate of the concerned academic institute
6. Copy of applicant’s academic certificate/record
7. Copy of the recent police clearance or certificate of no criminal conviction.
8. Copy of the previous/current work permit (if any)

Thai Visa Service (SWD) very straight and reliable - good people!

We all have to remember we're not at home any more - we choose to stay here. This is Thailand and it belongs to the Thais - when in Rome so the saying goes!

Why is FB trying to add links to my posts without my requesting that?
Bkk - your too nice, no queues in Thailand just survival of the fittest! LOL The trip is not holiday but it's still better to have experienced help than go it alone (the rules/procedure/paperwork change ALL the time in my firsthand experience!) Just my opinion tho! 😉😎🇳🇿

Sorry I did not add the link FB did - only saw it after I had commented!
Apparently not in Vientiane... Although a guy few weeks ago on this page, said he was asked to show his bank statement. So it wouldn't hurt to have it. 20k in cash too...

You don't really need to pay someone for that... The process is very easy. Quick fly to Udon or directly to Vientiane (depending where you are), stay close to the embassy, drop you application (simple form, passport, photocopies and 1 picture) on the morning, and get your visa the following day afternoon.

Personally I can only recommend SWD,
*******************************
They looked after me many many times, no hassles, no worries, did not bother looking for or using a different company as SWD always did the job.
That was for multiple tourist visas -
You could self do but I'm a lazy bugger and timed visa runs with same people
#visafriends !!!

They get my vote too. Used them maybe 8 times so far.

Thailand is a big country, it could make sense if you let us know where your stay or from which city you would like to depart?
