TLDR : Answer Summary
Re-entry stamps in Thailand are valid only for the duration of your current stay stamp, meaning they do not extend your permitted duration in the country. If you leave Thailand after obtaining a re-entry stamp, you can only return until your current visa or stay stamp expiration date.

My wife wants to travel in December. Thought we could get the stamp when we do 90 days next month. Her visa is valid until February next year.

a re-entry permit is valid for your current admitted until stamp or your current permission to stay until stamp. It doesn't add any time to that stamp it just means if you leave and come back you get stamped in until the old date.
