If you're planning to ride a motorcycle then you must have a UK motorcycle license for the IDP to be valid for motorcycles. If you plan to visit Thailand often then I'd recommend doing a 2 day course and getting the Thai license.
I live in a condo with a large bath and my water is 75 baht per month. Electricity for the past 2 months has been 450baht a month as its been cooler so no air con required.
2 day course. Multiple choice test and basic practical test. £40. Last 2 years then you can extend to 5 years. Absolutely worth it to be fully legal, particularly for insurance purposes.
If it did reset on Jan 1st then you could spend almost 1 year in Thailand spread over 2 calendar years on tourist visas , just by timing it right, and repeat. They doubt they would allow it or why would anyone bother with visas.
apparently that notice is not accurate. It has been suggested in other posts that there is no reset on Jan 1st as this would allow tourists to time it to receive over 300 days per year in Thailand with 2 x 60 days + extensions per year.
My school in Thailand messaged all students to advise not leaving Thailand during the year of study as more and more reports of being denied entry even with the valid ED visa and re-entry visa have been coming in. When on an ED visa you are supposed to remain in the country for the full duration, but previously re-entry visas have worked without problem.
