DTV_BegPecker Yes, a requirement to turn a 1-year IDP into a Thai driver’s license.

Anonymous participant 876 That is my understanding as well. And re-entry starts the 90-day clock over from zero, which presumably presents a problem obtaining a driver’s license.

Anonymous participant 876 For many that’s the easiest part to provide. Just log-in to a couple bank accounts, download and print out some PDFs. Done. Instead they put up the gauntlet. I don’t mind doing a border bounce, but the current extension requirements are too onerous to be practical and could jeopardize one’s ability to obtain a driver’s license if another 90-day wait (for TM 47) is required to get the residence permit.

A very thoughtful response. Appreciate it. Your suggestion to bounce and then work with the DLT directly is what I will plan to do. Would’ve had this finished already but had to deal with a property fraud in Kathu, Phuket, which I was planning to use to get my residence certificate.

Did you consider extending before deciding to bounce?

Yes. You are a digital nomad. Make sure you can prove you pay yourself. And give yourself a salary.

Congratulations. The hard part is over. Don’t forget to do your 90-day report in ~90 days, and every 90 continuous days in the kingdom. Ask for a TM 30 printout from one of your hotels so you have one later. It’s required along with the TM 47 to complete the 90-day notice.

I have April insurance, a Thai company. Plan provides about a half million USD in coverage, with medical evacuation if needed, for about $1000/USD annually. Have not had any claims yet, thankfully, and feel good knowing my plan works in SEA (outside Singapore) and in Europe.

appreciate the experience info. I will keep that in consideration. I actually didn’t even realize there was more than one immigration office in Phuket until you mentioned it. Very good to know.
