indeed the desperate and silly attempts to normalize this behavior is embarrassing.

indeed he has been helpful- šŸ’Æ! but leadership would suggest keeping the knives out to a minimum and trying to create a peaceful group. I am shocked and disappointed but not… this was exactly the answer to OPs question ā€˜why is it like this?’ - well

y, because it’s allowed and now it’s received an empathetic stamp of approval. Cuz there’s a good reason to be rude. Wah. šŸ™„

@Stefani *******
I felt the same way. OP asked and he explained- thereby clarifying to the ones that participate in this behavior, that it’s understandable and they need not worry about curbing their urges to eviscerate someone coming for exactly what the name says. It says advice it doesn’t say specifics, it doesn’t say advice after you’ve reached a certain level of knowledge - people sometimes don’t know what advice they need ffs!!

And I admin 3 groups- most people don’t know how to find the rules in a group or that groups have a search bar.

thank you. The string of explanations basically justifying belittling people is exactly what I expected to see. A prescribed amount of empathy? That’s why the world is like this. Absolute strangers coming to a place for exactly what the name invites them for doesn’t require empathy and no one is some humanitarian sharing advice in such a place šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø the rationalizing probably goes on for the rest of the 100 comments. I expected nothing less. This OP isn’t the first person to suggest it’s not necessary to insult and humiliate strangers, but this is SEA in a nutshell. The majority of western men are mediocre where they came from and elevated here and then they act like this.

It will really destroy your hope if you’re not careful šŸ˜” I don’t have a prescribed amount of empathy’… that’s the silliest thing I’ve heard today. we have an endless supply, but not near as much as we do childish, mean arrogance. šŸ˜”

but the school will maintain them as working til dec 20. I understand legalities and that playing by the rules is usually the best thing but also a have lived in SEA for a long time. This school can’t keep its own story straight. They aren’t going to harm her. They’re just crap. This is the gamble eyes wide open but as always I value your input.

By the time I had posted I got a lot more details. Weighing everything out, the odds are in their favor.

I’ve suggested checking with an agent for a consult as well. One said this is a reasonable choice and the other will weigh in tomorrow

the visas they hold are both exp Aug 2025. They’ve already received it?

a work extension? Is that the 90 day check in? See? As I read on in your comment, do you see how the school has just BSd?

They aren’t bothered to ever return to Thailand tbh. Hired into a proper school and other countries are near to visit on holiday- they won’t be bothering to fly to Thailand for any reason.

I wrote a response to this and it disappeared. They are both carrying visas that are good until August 2025. Supposedly the school will cancel the work permit December 20. The 90 day check in will be done Nov 29, I think, right around then…

I highly doubt they will go through the trouble to cancel it. Let’s say they do…there is a seven day grace period which gets to the 27th. Again, I cannot imagine these people lifting a finger to do anything that would require them effort or any penny.

They have already said it would be canceled November 20, now they are ā€˜being very gracious’ according to them… She hasn’t asked for any assistance or ā€˜favors’ they just announced their kindness and said they will be nice and extend it to Dec 20.

That tells me that they aren’t going to cancel it at all. However let’s just say they do. So now we are on the morning of the 28th and the grace period is over.

A few days later they will arrive at the airport with tickets, 2 people 2 suitcases, with visas til 2025. They will arrive early with the appropriate amount for a fee.

If they are stopped- AUS teacher and child heading out at holiday break time… they will pay the fee- 3000 or less and be on their way.

Unless a police checkpoint in the street has some electronic access to what will likely not be immediately updated files in that small window of time… and since they will not be out much during that time, but have groceries delivered… what need is there to pay to haul a kid in and out and god forbid have any trouble

re entering and all their stuff is in country and they are outside and they have a ticket departing from BKK Jan 1… (also the school acted exasperated and said don’t go in and out, it would complicate things for them and be an inconvenience, so don’t enjoy this time off)

Staying seems the best and least stressful course of action. I know this is so convoluted. It’s hard to articulate but you know how some schools can be.

It is a gamble but a safer and less stressful and less costly one than the alternative. They told her not to leave or she would be inconveniencing them and what if they don’t give her her last pay she can’t really come out of pocket for a visa run. It’s a crapshoot, but the best course of action I think.
