Even public health care can cost money …Thai friends father had brain surgery that cost 200,000 baht. He had to go to the bank and borrow it against his farm.

If you have the money to lose forever ….then elite is a good less hassle visa ….but if your just an average income guy it’s not a good use of your budget. I hold the basic elite visa which expires in June 26…I won’t renew for the same reasons to rent, not buy. Thailand is changing rapidly and may not be where I want to spend a majority of my days anymore. If you hold into your money you have choices unless your really loaded

I normally would be the one to tell you to research this site: but you will get all sorts of advice from all sorts of people.

The best suggestion I find is for you to spend 2-3 weeks or more exploring Thailand and finding out where you want to live at first. Then interview several visa agents in that area and see how they will get you a O visa…and compare their costs. Make sure they are reputable by asking American expats in the area.
