There is no such thing as a "retirement Visa". What you are looking for is a One Year extension of stay based on Retirement. You need to change your visa to a 90 day non-O, Then you can apply for the extension based on Retirement, where you will need to satisfy the financial requirements.
I stayed on a Non-O multi entry based on marriage for many years due to working worldwide. it is only in the last 4 years after retiring that I switched to yearly extension.
If it was less than US$ 20,000 they have no justification for taking it away. The Thai government website is quite clear on the amounts and the requirements.
