TLDR : Answer Summary

It highlights that a letter from the British consulate is typically needed to confirm the issuance of a new passport, although some users mention that this may not be required for Australian passport holders. Users share experiences and advice regarding the sharing of this letter, emphasizing the importance of protecting personal information when doing so.
It is a generic letter. I had this problem, the fuss they made I thought I had lost it. Thankfully in the envelope.

The letter is to confirm that you got a new passport. I don't think Immigration believes it when you show up with a copy of the letter with somebody else name and passport details.
