I’m on a 60 day TR visa right now.

I’m only 30 days into it.

Can I apply for a 12 retirement visa?

I’ve been told I need to apply for a 3 month non immigrant O visa first. Then the retirement visa. ( total 15 months stay)

Is this true? Any advice/ help appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about transitioning from a 60-day TR visa to a retirement visa in Thailand. They have been informed that they must first obtain a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa before applying for a yearly extension of stay based on retirement. Community responses clarify that while there is no actual retirement visa, there is a process where one must initially apply for the Non-O visa, meet financial requirements, and follow the steps for a yearly extension based on retirement.

is correct there is no such thing as a retirement visa. There are several things that people commonly refer to as one.

What you're talking about is getting a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being over 50. You'd meet the financial requirements and turn in the correct documentation, the application will go under consideration for 15 days (21 in chiang mai) and then you go back to get the 90 day Non-O inked into your passport. Then you wait 60 more days and go apply for a yearly extension of stay by turning in the same documentation and meeting the financial requirements again.

Go to the immigration office out at Chaengwattana and talk to the people in section C-1 <- they issue ALL Non-Immigrant Type visas inside the country for Bangkok.

They will give you a sheet that shows what you need to get the 90 day Non-O from them. You will need at least 15 days left on your current stamp (visa exempt, tourist visa or an extension from one of those) to get the Non-O issued. it cost 2000baht.

I’m in Bangkok.

Have all documents/financial criteria.

Over 50 and married to a Thai

Been married over a year. Been together 2 years.

Only ever used the 60 day TR visa in the past due to work contracts in the uk. Got 5-6 Tr in my passport now if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the good advice so far.

How about stating where you are in thailand so people can advise you whether you can get the 90 day Non-O visa from your local immigration office OR if you'll have to go out of the country to get it from a thai consulate nearby.

There is no such thing as a "retirement Visa". What you are looking for is a One Year extension of stay based on Retirement. You need to change your visa to a 90 day non-O, Then you can apply for the extension based on Retirement, where you will need to satisfy the financial requirements.
