So firstly you're saying is it was compulsory if you were getting married in Phuket in 1982. I can't disagree with that, but it's not really relevant. A lot has changed since then.

Secondly - certified marriage document's for non-O visas are nothing to do with police background checks. Not sure what point you're making there.

Definitely not in Bangkok. Maybe different elsewhere.

@Parme*****
there's no requirement for a criminal record check in order to marry here, or to get a business visa or work permit. Are you just making this up as you go along?!

Re: Singapore - major improvements now they use an online application system. You actually get approval before you fly so there's no risk of delay.

Still horrendously expensive if you're covering the cost yourself and don't want to stay in some dump in Little India.

Had zero issues with KL. As long as your docs are in order it's easy. Flights from DMK are dirt cheap as well, as are hotels / getting around the city.

Never considered using an agent so can't comment on that part.

Since when is Penang better than KL? Subjective I guess.

Looks like you'll need to stay 2 nights then 😉

Ah ok. Check Skyscanner then - I thought you were in Bangkok

That's the collection time (from 2:30) at the consulate. I flew home around 6pm. Check-in online and print your boarding pass - that way the only queue is for immigration

Got in around 10am KL time, no checked in luggage. Taxi got me to the Embassy just after 11.
