I asked just the other day. I think it was in the more strict visa group :) It is possible to do without leaving the country. But! Supposedly, somewhat more difficult. I'd say, have the potential employer talk with immigration. They're the ones who have to arrange the paper work anyway, right?

In Bangkok you can go something like 40 days before "admitted until". I'd say call or email the immigration office.
