Hi there.
I'm Danish and want to share my experience getting hold of the notification letter from my embassy asking Thailand to help me out (Aka. the 30 day emergency extension letter).
I send the first email explaining my situation on the 23rd. (TL:DR on that is that I haven't been to DK for 3+ years and if I go home I'll be homeless without possibility to quarantine and unemployed.)
I almost immediately got declined due to official policy being that Danes are to return home immediately.
Yesterday (the 25th) I follow up, explain my situation a bit better, I refer to the UK situation where they started handing out the letter without proof of cancellation. I state that I don't have proof of cancellation of transport out of Thailand as I never got to book it before the next leg of my travels got cancelled (and that most likely I would have crossed land borders all the way to Nepal). I urge them to reconsider their position.
I get an immediate reply asking for my phone number, they tried calling me later but was unsuccessful. Instead they asked for photo of my passport and this morning I received the letter.
Moral of my story? Contact your embassy, be polite and explain what predicament you're in. Urge them to reconsider their position, as far as I know, I am the first that got this letter.
AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR WONDERFUL SERVICE/WORK
Good luck out there, and wash your hands ❤️
TLDR : Answer Summary
A Danish expat shares their experience obtaining a 30-day emergency extension letter from the embassy in Thailand. After initially being declined, they provided a detailed explanation of their circumstances, including their inability to return home due to housing and employment issues, and successfully received the letter after a follow-up. The key takeaway is to communicate politely with your embassy and clearly explain your situation.
