Can I request a 30-day extension on my 60-day visa in Thailand before it's needed?

Hello. I am here on a 60 day visa i got in Canada.

I arrived March 19. I am stamped to stay until May 17.

I have a flight that has not been cancelled YET that is booked for May 16.

Can I go ask for a 30 day extension even if I may not need?

If they gave me the extension would it be 30 days on top of the 60 days i already have? Eg allow me to stay until June 16 appox.

I am staying at a Thais home in Korat Does this make any difference for me?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 60-day visa obtained in Canada, set to expire on May 17. They are inquiring whether they can request a 30-day extension early, despite not needing it yet, and whether this extension would extend their stay until June 16. Various comments suggest that it may be more prudent to request the extension closer to the expiration date, especially considering the current COVID-19 situation which may affect service availability.

Everyone has until July 31.why would you get an extension?

What date did they give you on your extension?

Makes no sense to go now to extend this early and potentially give or get this illness. Wait to see how things shake out and get through this wave of covid. If the IOs close all over Thailand there should be blanket amnesties.

Not until closer the time, 1 or 2 days before flight, but you have to report after 60 days

thanks. At this point we could all use some luck. The airlines should be fine. At least the one in Canada. We only have one. It is not very good. I would never fly on them.

that sounds logical. I do not want to wait until after my 60 days.

We can't do much else so we could just go ask them

It makes no sense going now, they will probably tell you to go away and come back a few days before your visa expires. They have more urgent matters.

In Bangkok you can go something like 40 days before "admitted until". I'd say call or email the immigration office.

have you ever been to Korat? Lots of places to visit here but it is hardly a tourist meca.

Why do you want to ask the extension more than 1 month before you need to and you're not even sure you need it?

In Normal time, you can I believe request it that early.

Klm and Lufthansa are sending flights home and people are stranded in places like new muscat, Delhi, Amsterdam, Oslo etc.

With 2 or 3 stops its hard to know you won't get stuck in a place with no flights home.

my airline first cancelled flights until April 17. They have now changed that to May 1. I would rather be safe than sorry
