TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges faced by expats in Thailand regarding immigration and visa issues due to the coronavirus outbreak. Key points include uncertainty regarding required documentation for Immigration, complications related to obtaining travel letters from embassies, and the potential for Thailand to become an expat refuge during the pandemic. Contributors express hopes for a resolution that allows expats on Multi-Entry Non-O or B visas to stay longer without penalties, emphasizing the economic benefits of keeping tourists and expats in the country during this crisis.

My position is (as if that counted for anything with the U.S. Embassy) The Letter is a Win/Win situation for Thailand and the Tourist or Expat on a Multi-Entry Non O or B... The people who get to stay for 30 days to get through this shutdown will spend money that Thailand says they want and need... Win/Win.

Thai Immigration seems to think that serious overstayees may get to stay and that's a bad thing. Well Damn. Immigration can certainly tell the difference between legitimate tourists and Expats needing 30 days and absconders who have overstaying for years.

I did have a thought today...some Imm. I/Os don't want to take the pressure of us who are caught in the middle 'cause that pressure induces a bribe offer for the 30 days.

There's a catch... รŽ

This is going to be a big issue soon and people will have to be allowed to stay. Thailand might end up a bit of an expat refuge from corona if things somehow stay under control here.

That would be.... brilliant

Only if you get a letter stating you canโ€™t travel from your embassy. Most embassies arenโ€™t issuing those letters.
