Does anyone have any idea if and how to arrange new work permits during this period for people who are already in Thailand (for example because they just finished studying or because they lost their previous job and had their work permit and visa cancelled) because the normal process of going to a Thai embassy in another country to obtain a business visa isn't possible now right?

TLDR : Answer Summary
During the current travel restrictions, individuals already in Thailand may arrange new work permits without leaving the country, but the process is reportedly more complicated. It is advised that potential employers communicate with the relevant authorities, primarily the Labour Department Office where the individual intends to work. This is contrary to some perceptions that the Immigration Office handles work permits, as they are more focused on visa issues. Users are encouraged to follow guidance from their employers and stay updated on immigration procedures.

I'm in the same boat! My new employer tells me it can be done in-country and at this point I am simply following their instructions - one step at a time - but I still don't understand how they will pull it off. I am set to go to Immigration on

You have to go to the Labour Department Office where you intend to work or are currently working to sort out your Work Permit.

Work permits, as I understand it, is not the job of the Immigration Office. Try Richard Barrow on Twitter. He has recently talked about this.

I asked just the other day. I think it was in the more strict visa group :) It is possible to do without leaving the country. But! Supposedly, somewhat more difficult. I'd say, have the potential employer talk with immigration. They're the ones who have to arrange the paper work anyway, right?
