Alison Cherry Standen It looks like you’re correct, unless you’re going to a country with which Australia has a social security agreement.

My experience when living in Thailand (first went in 2010, lived there on pension in 2016, so perhaps rules have changed): Age pensioners or disability pensioners receive about 10% less (no supplements). If less than 35 years in Australia as an adult, pension will be pro rata. Disability pension will be paid when permanently overseas, only if you are on maximum disability, and with no chance of ever being able to work again; even then, you will be paid NIL while you are overseas, within the first two years on disability pension. If living permanently overseas, we are not covered by Medicare if we visit Australia, with the intention of returning overseas soon. I informed the Australian Electoral Commission when I moved overseas.

maybe it changed… I had one-year ed visa, reported address to Chaengwattana every 3 months… actually only three times… after 3, 6, 9 months, then left Thailand at 12 months

It’s been 15 years since I had Ed Visa, for 1 year, but it was 90 day reporting of address, not extension.

I’m Australian. Once, when leaving Sydney for Bangkok, I was asked to show my return ticket.

Doctor consultations are cheap. No appointments, usually. I used to be at surgery 15 minutes before it opened; I was usually first to be seen.
