Your visa is valid for 5 years, and as long as immigration at the entry ports doesn't start controlling your status, you have a 5 year tourist visa.

You don't have to do anything or worry about anything until that changes.

you can not. It's illegal to work in Thailand without a work visa or DTV.

It's almost never enforced, but that is the law.

Reach out to one of your clients and have them send you an employment contract. Just tell them it's for visa reasons. If you're close, it shouldn't be an issue

Do you face fines for not submitting your 90-day report while on a DT visa in Thailand?

The fine is max 2000 baht and only applicable if you go to an immigration office to do something without doing the report on time.

You don't get fined when leaving and entering the country without having done the report.
