 you can get 6 month extensions in some provinces. But OP can't get a DTV, so now we're trying to help him find options.

Anonymous participant if you're getting a DTV, it doesn't matter what you do the three months prior. Getting a ED visa and cancelling it is such an unnecessary headache. Just use the visa exemption and then go get your DTV.

 the visa situation is a lot better in the Philippines, so you won't have that issue. A lot of expats stay in Cebu or Makati, so you should start there and visit a few islands.
