Is there any cough medicine that actually works, that I can get in a pharmacy here?
Tried three different pills/syrups I got from pharmacists, and my cough is still not going away.
Doctor gave me antibiotics, didn't make any difference.
TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query seeks recommendations for effective cough medicine available in Thai pharmacies, following the user's experience with several medications and antibiotics that failed to alleviate their symptoms. Community responses suggest a mix of both pharmaceutical options, like dextromethorphan for dry coughs, and natural remedies such as ginger, honey, lemon, and alternative cocktails like Hot Toddy or garlic mixtures. They also advise seeing a doctor for persistent coughs, especially if it's worsening or indicative of bronchitis, and consider environmental factors like air pollution.
Hmmm... If you have had the flu etc recently, you will WANT to cough to clear your throat. You need an expectorant that will suppress your cough for a short while, but then makes your coughs "more productive" when you DO cough. I have a cough for 1 to 2 weeks after a strong flu.

Ask for "brown mixture" at the pharmacy. That's the name that was printed on the label the last time I got it. Sip as needed was the directions! đ€Ł
It cleared up my chest congestion and cough like magic! Tasted not so good...but it only took a couple of doses to knock it out.

There are increasing levels of air pollution over much of Thailand right now. Get an air filter and run it in your home. Limit time outside and see if it improves.

If youâre near a hospital like Bangkok Hospital, or Bumrungrad; they have an International medicine office for non Thai citizens. I did it; was great; doctors/staff excellent and VERY reasonable charge. I had a bad cough like that last year and was diagnosed bronchitis. The Thai doctor at Bangkok Hospital saw signs of that infection on my chest X-ray he took. I was given anti virals & an antibiotic for secondary infection. Plus a cough suppressant that worked amazingly but unfortunately I donât recall the name. But see a doctor vs a pharmacist. Good luck because yes, itâs awfulđš

I've got the same thing.
A cold that is now turning into bronchitis. Took lots of meds and it kept worsening. 1 week already and it's now a constant tickle in the throat which triggers relentless coughing.
If it's a wet cough like mine, drink lots of warm fluids (ginger, lemon, honey). Vaporize with steam. If it's nasal congestion, flush your nasal passage with a salt solution (I add a little sage and lemon). This is working better than all those meds that I took for 5 days! Cough syrup didnt help much. Even used codipront which is a strong cough suppressant. It's impossible to sleep too.

It looks awful but it doesnât taste too bad and it works!
Doctors always give / prescribe antibiotics as they can make more money on them, try honey & lemon juice in some hot (warm water) especially if itâs a tickly cough, it should help and cost you a lot less money.
Iâve often been told to add a little freshly chopped chilli đ¶ as it helps to open the pores to get rid of mild infection etc. But as everyone is different, itâs trial & error to see what works for you but I definitely agree with the addition of scotch whisky đ„.

Whatâs the clause of your cough? If antibiotics didnât work itâs probably viral.
