To pull cash from my US bank, I was planning up hitting an ATM (in Pattaya) with my Schwab Debit card, I know Schwab refunds ATM fees. Not sure of FX conversion rate or any options I can pick to get a reasonable rate and not get screwed. Thoughts?

------

UPDATE: My Schwab card didn't work at the Bangkok Bank ATM for some reason so I ended up using my Wells Fargo Card. I refused the ATMs conversion offer (and gave it a gentle but firm kick..one for the team :-0..out of the camera's sight).

Withdrawal: 25,000 Bhat

ATM Fee: 250 Bhat

Total: 25,250 Bhat

Welle Fargo Charge: 782.22

Exchange Rate: 32.28

Not terrible!UPDATE

Hi everyone. I searched the group and have a question. I have a retirement visa and want to open a bank account with kasikorn bank. I went to the minburi branch twice and they wanted my ssn card, tm30, passport and US ID. They are saying I need a book for where I’m living with my girlfriend that includes me in the document.

I know sometimes the requirements are branch dependent.

Has any opened an account with Kasikorn bank recently and which branch in Bangkok.

Many thanks

Edit: I meant bank accounts in Thailand - not Myanmar :)

I will soon need to end my business visa/work permit and find a different visa type. I have considered DTV (remote worker) as an option.

I've had bank accounts with two banks in Thailand for the last 5 years. What's the risk that these bank accounts will get shut down or frozen if I switch to a DTV? And what would be the trigger for the bank to learn that I have changed visa types?

I have an SCB bank account which I opened on a non O Guardian visa over a year ago. Haexcellent now re-entered on DTV.

Forgot my debit card in an ATM and now have to go into the branch to get a new one (fml). Am worried this will result in my account getting closed?! Any advice?

Am I doing something wrong with Wize? I transfer money from USA to Kasikorn Bank with Wize. I can transfer up to $200 and it posts in seconds but if I transfer a larger amount it takes several days to post. Im not sure where the cutoff is but my last transaction was $800 and it took 5 days (although two were weekend days) and it initially stated the transaction would take 7 days.

Hi quick question..

Many financial products work like a checking account here in the states... are there money market or a different local thai equivalent that you could use to satisfy the 800k baht visa requirement..

I can't understand why the thai government doesn't just offer a 10 or 20 year cd that would fulfill the requirement..

Thanks

Well this is interesting , just gone into my kbank in the shopping centre to get a global inward form . In conversation they told me that new accounts cannot be opened now with a 90 day non o evisa . I opened mine over a month ago with this type . I thought really , lady in bank said government has changed what type .

So anyway I went into SCB and asked to open an account to be told the same information.

For info only , don’t know if this will be the same everywhere

Due to problems with Wise not marking international payments as international I'm just wondering if I can do the following:

I already have a Bangkok Bank account already with the requisite 800k which I'll be using to obtain my Non-O retirement 1 year extension in mid January (the money has been there for many months).

I also have a Kasikorn account, which I believe Wise payments will show as international deposits, if I pay in 65K for 12 months and after 12 months will I be able to switch the visa to the Kasikorn account and then carry on with the 65K method
