Do I really need to go to K-Bank for facial verification if I rarely exceed 50,000 THB in transactions?
I have K-Bank account already. Opened in September 2023 while still on work permit. Switched to DTV in May 2025. Now I have a prompt on my K-Bank app asking me to visit a branch for facial verification, otherwise I cannot make transactions more than 50,000. But I never do anywhere close to 50,000 anyhow. And it still let's me make transfers and do QR scans. So I'm wondering, is there still a need for me to go to the bank? Am I at risk of them eventually restricting my account if I don't do it?

I had the same doubts. But they didn't check anything visa related. I had a new passport as well, which they took a picture off and did the facial verification without problems.

I am using Bangkok bank which is open last 3 years with 14 days visa free . Now I am on DTV . Last 2 months I try to cash out from atm . I only can take out

. After that bank increase back my atm cashless withdraw amount to 50k . they are checking your transaction. I use only rental , hospital , shopping and grab most . So it can only depend on how you use your bank account .

I am in the same situation and recently went to Kasikorn to register for face scanning and also update my new passport. They didn't say anything about my DTV. Even if you don't do transactions over 50k you will eventually need to register for face scanning anyway when you get a new phone and need to sign into the app.

You should go the bank and ask for facial verification to them. They will help you with the process of facial verification. If not so, you can't change your phone(example: current phone to another new phone) at least because it's requesting the facial verification when login to another phone every time even K bank app is able to install on your phone. The active phone no. should be updated as well.

Probably nothing would happen if you go to the bank. Most likely the bank clerks will not do the extra work for reporting your account with incorrect visa. If anything it would be the system by the headquater in Bangkok freezing your account.

Of course they can close your account, you're now with DTV and it's not allowed to hold bank account. But you might get lucky and let you hold the account. Go to the bank and ask

I was in the exact situation as you, kbank account opened when on a working permit then switched to dtv. One year ago I did the facial id at the bank, no problem for my bank account. consider that you have to give your passport and they noticed my working permit was missing, and I had DTV. No problem so far

This is normal biometrics that they are asking everyone to do. Should be no issue if you don’t do it

Recently been at Krungthai (blue one) to update the name (I’m on smart s currently and changed surname) and they said if dtv visa bank account might be cancelled since its new bank policy, most of major ones. No more bank accounts with smart visa as well, even it’s allowed by the program itself. Might be at risk if you will come. No advice here tho

Flamingou_🌸I don’t think anyone understands the logic around why they make it so hard. I am on DTV and wander to get Smart S later. I understand it comes with an implicit work permit but as there is no actual work permit that is perhaps why they want to exclude it. Never known an industry to not want to grow its user base.

There is no logic actually, I assume. Smart s is not as before. Most of smart visas are cancelled, 0 possibility to open bank account rn. Maybe still possible somewhere in BKK, smart visa team is not really helpful. They said different brunches different rules. Try all of them good luck, human. That doesn’t provide current banks names which actually allowed to open an account, so from my attempts there is none anymore. I suggested em just to email at every major bank to confirm the actual info. One week to prepare residential certificates it takes, with bank name and brunch address, cannot be used for different brunches. Wasted time. We have the same question as you. How to pay salaries if there no account. How to do any business at all. All the banks asking for work permit, smart s letter is not enough for them and even on the call with the smart visa team they said we will not open an account. Bank policy. Blue bank even not install application at my new phone cuz I’m at smart s, they said I’m not allowed to upload it. So how I suppose to use it at all? 🫠

No need to go to the bank. Look at their message wording. You are now limited to transfers less than 50,000 Thai baht, which allows you to use your current bank account card AND online services.

No I dont think so its routine, face verification has been nightmare with Bangkok bank and Kbank, very inconsistent.
