Oh wise ones, I have a few logistical questions. I am getting ready to apply for my non-O retirement visa in a few weeks.

-For the 3 months of bank statements, do they want them individually uploaded or uploaded as a combined document?

-I have more than enough in my bank to demonstrate I have the available funds. I was also planning on uploading my social security benefit letter that shows I get more than the 65K baht a month. Would you recommend that in addition to the bank statements, or just leave it as the bank? The bank statements show the SSA deposits.

-For the 'recent photo', I am assuming they don't want a passport photo and want a recent photo such as a selfie. What would you suggest, passport photo or a recent photo of me taken by a friend?

Thank you all for your invaluable help! I've learned so much from this group, almost every day!
Answer summary
The author is preparing to apply for a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand and has several logistical questions regarding the application process. They are inquiring about how to submit bank statements (combined or individual), whether to include a Social Security benefit letter along with bank statements, and what type of photo is appropriate for the application. Community responses suggest merging bank statements into one file and uploading a selfie rather than a formal passport photo. Some users mention that additional documentation like Social Security letters may not be necessary, while others share tips based on their personal experiences with the visa application process.

James Harris passport photos always have the white background .

A passport photo is a strict, government-compliant, neutral-expression portrait taken from a distance to ensure accuracy

Expression: Passport photos require a neutral expression with a closed mouth and eyes open.

Distance & Angle: Passport photos should be taken from 1.5โ€“2 meters (5-6 feet) away to avoid distortion.

Background & Lighting: Passport photos require a plain, solid white or off-white

Question for the Author: Are you applying for your initial Non-O retirement visa? and

Are you using the monthly income qualification method?

The reasons I am asking is: I am planning to apply for the Non-O retirement visa but was told Social Security income and social security income statements would not be accepted unless certified by the US Embassy, and the embassy doesn't do that anymore.

Thank you for any information or advice

OP
Jeff Fouble Jeff, I have both so am starting with the qualifying bank account, and have my SSA as back up.

that only applies to the extension of stay which you apply for inside Thailand. If your embassy no longer provides an income certificate then you need to use the 800k baht method for at least the 1st extension of stay

Thank you, John, but it sounds like the Author is using only the monthly income method, or did I read this incorrectly?

I think you did read incorrectly but that aside it's possible for one to use monthly income when applying for the initial 90 day Non-O visa before travelling to Thailand. It's just not possible for the 1st extension of stay inside Thailand unless ones embassy provides an income certificate which the US embassy does not

OP
Steve Brown End of August, you have 90 days from the day they approve to land so I thought I would start early, as I hear anything from approval in 2 weeks to 6+ weeks!

As an aside, if the photo has to be in a certain format, or specific background, I used visaphoto.com for my Indonesia e-visa last year. It was a bit unclear, if they wanted white or red background, so they sent me both in the proper format, after I sent them my selfie.

You can only upload one file per section so merge your 3 PDF files and upload that

It will be obvious on your statement where your "income" payments are

yes, a recent selfie against a white background
