Can I open a Thai bank account with a six month multiple entry tourist visa, thanks
Answer summary
Opening a bank account in Thailand as a tourist is generally not allowed. Multiple comments indicate that tourists, including those on a six-month multiple entry tourist visa, cannot open a Thai bank account legally. Most responses emphasize the necessity of having a non-immigrant visa (such as a NON-O visa) to qualify for opening a bank account. Some users mention that although agents may assist, there are significant risks involved, including potential account freezing. Overall, the consensus reflects a tightening of banking rules in Thailand over recent years.

Times and rules have changed. What you’re saying was then now. Don’t misguide people with what was in the past. You should know by now just as soon as you learn the current Thai rules they change
Just use your Thai girlfriends account and no worries and it won't get frozen, That'swhat i do, supper convenient as well because I don't have keep transferring money when she wants somethingto eat! Happy days! 😊
Nuno Gomez to avoid the hight ATM fees and bad exchange rates, for any expensive purchase, to pay your rent, utility, telefon, to pay any contractor, ...... that's possible in most counties in this world, I have in at leased 10 countries Bank accounts
Nuno Gomez how would you define a tourist? Is there a specific time limit for your stay in a foreign country? The "Thailand Privilege" visa is officially a tourist visa. People on that visa can open a bank account. There's nothing wrong with wanting to open a bank account in any country. Whether it's allowed is another question. The problem with Thailand is that the authorities have not clearly stated who can do so.
No. Only visas classified as "non-immigrant" long term "tourist" visas like the ED and DTV would qualify. You'll need the TM30 taken to immigration to obtain a Certificate of Residence. You'll also need a passport with at least 6 months of validity (also make copies), two recent 1x1" passport photos, a valid drivers license from your home country (get a certified English translation, if not in English), an International Drivers Permit (IDP), and a medical certificate from a clinic or hospital (within 30 days). You still can't open a Thai bank account with a Thai drivers license. However, it can serve as a valid secondary ID in Thailand. It can also be used for KYC for the popular TrueMoney Wallet app, unlocking its Advance tier. You'll be able to use QR scan payments for private and smaller merchants, making long term stay in Thailand more convenient.
A long time ago there were banks that would open you an account with just that, but recently Thai banks have tightened A LOT even for people with work permits they don't want to give bank accounts without loads of other documents.
Peter Willenaar that's not true, from my 20 years in Thailand I never heard of any bank operating this policy, the nearest to that was a certain bank asking for the purchase of a accident insurance policy for 5000 baht
You applied for a non o visa inside of Thailand , thats the only reason you got it ,, if you never applied for the non o ,, you deffo won’t of got it on a tourist visa
Stephen Dalton you paid an agent. Watch when your account is closed.
And show me a “3 month visa” for Thailand. There is a single entry that is a 60 day entry, that can be extended by 30 more days”. That is not a “3 month visa” as you are ONLY stamped in on it for 60 days.
I wouldn’t want to call you the dumbest man on the planet, but you better hope he doesn’t die
u need a lease and a home thai address ive got a siam bank one but had it a few yrs now .i had a multi entry o visa .things prob have changed like everything else .
The simple answer is no. It MAY be possible using an agent but chances are the account will be frozen afterwards since tourists can’t open accounts on a tourist visa.
Even if an agent can open one fir you, risks are high that you lose your account later. Guess I’m just one of the lucky few that kept it for years. I only keep a minimal amount of money in the account and ny landlord knows that in the wirst casr i have to switch to wise which he’s fine with. Some want an official payment confirmation
No but when you do get sorted to open a bank account K Bank seems to be the best for us..👍it seems it depends on which area your bank is in as to which is best
Gary Esler Actually I have account with Bangkok Bank for some years. They didn’t provide online banking facility. Just ATM Union pay card and Passbook. No online banking
Do KBank provide online banking. And if I decide to open account with them. Can I open an account as a tourist in Thailand.
Sposa You you can't open a bank account as a tourist.. K bank have been good for me. If you have a Thai bank account already try getting a Wise account and card as well.
I had a Visa (foreign) card sucked into a KBank ATM the other week in Bangkok and went to a nearby branch in Saimai and they made a few calls and got it back within 48hrs. Staff were amazing.
