Denied bank accounts in Thailand, what's going on?

Interesting development on Friday. Went to Kalasin Immigration for paperwork for drivers license. It came up in conversation that I had been denied at several banks to open a bank account. Head of Immigration had another look at my 5yr DTV and got quiet angry. He said no, this is a good visa. He got a pen and circled the 5 year part of the visa, wrote his phone number and name on the bottom and said, if the bank refuses tell them to call me 😃. Looking forward to going to a bank tomorrow and see how it all plays out. Should be good for a laugh.

You can do it yourself easily

Immigration 90 day report section has the list of requirements front of the desk

Personally I’d take note of the requirements fill in and make the required copies before going there to report

Much easier than previous as you don’t even lose sight of your passport it’s checked and done in front of you

Simple as 👌

It is advisable not to engage an agency to manage this process on your behalf. Immigration regulations require that funds remain in your personal account for at least 3 months. Failure to adhere to this guideline may result in immigration complications, including the potential cancellation of your visa. Please exercise caution.

So now you are stuck with an agent because you will not pass the next extension.... 800k for 3 months and 400k permanent...

Get your agent to do the 90 day report will probably change 100 baht as they do it on line

IF You do it yourself, don't worry, they won't check your bank account just passport and proof of address.

Don't listen to the nay sayers.

Congrats on using an agent to get everything taken care of; very wise move. The agent got your bank account opened so that temporary deposit notwithstanding, that was enough information that you should wire transfer (I use SWIFT) the B800k from your home bank account to your new Thai bank account as soon as possible and let it set. Some people say using an agent will obligate you to use them forever but I don't think that's true if you have your own money deposited right away.

Nobody said that "using an agent will obligate you to use them forever". What people are truthfully saying is that next year, if he want to do another 12 months extension, he need to use the same agent, or, if he has the 800k baht, he will need to cancel the visa, leave, and re-start the initial 90 days process. You cannot go from using an agent to DIY the next year without leaving the country and restarting the process. It's been like this for decades. So it's not a matter of opinion. I would urge people to comment only if they know what they are talking about.

Can use any agent in subsequent years, doesn't have to the be the same one. Just have to use any agent if didn't meet the financial requirements.

Sujy Sujaree I've used agents, no agents, different agent, no agent, depending on how much paperwork/re-work I want to go through. Ofcourse I opened my own account with my money and just use agents most of the time for a no worry/hassle-free process, as it is designed.

yes. That's the entire point of an agent. Use money to bypass all of that

Are you sure about that? That you can go from one immigration office to another?

Sujy Sujaree and I wouldn't put anything on an account that an agent can redraw money from.

Christer Bau The agent can't withdraw without you being there. They need a contact at a bank or booth to withdraw but you are there with them.

Thankyou. I think I might just use my agent again. He said it would be 500b which would save a lot of grief.
