What should I do about my work permit and visa issues before leaving Thailand tonight?
Need advice asap. I've resigned from my school. My visa and wp end Aug 31st.I have a letter from the school stating this date. I've asked them to change the date of cancellation to today. This was done a week ago. Schools closed for holidays so no one is replying. I leave Thailand permanently....well more like for 4 years tonight. I want to spend time with family and friends and not run around doing paperwork. What should I do?

I would just leave as planned. There is nothing much you can do about cancellation date of your WP. When you approach immigration on departure and explain to them and they can’t help, just contact the Thai embassy when you get home and send them an email and attach all documents and ask them to record this for future reference. Next time you plan to visit Thailand, apply for a METV way before your travel date. If there is a hiccup, then at least you can show them you tried to resolve the issue.

Im so confused, why do you need it changed to today? Why is just leaving the country tonight some sort of bad thing? Can someone expain what hes worried about? I would leave and not be worried even one tiny bit and would return later without the slightest worry, why worry

OPDamian Mavis I just thought that I needed to end my WP and visa to leave. I had a thought that they might stop me or something.. I don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking....I do want a clean immigration and work record though as I do plan on coming back in a few years.

Ryan Ryry oh god no brother you have nothing to worry about, you arent held hostage because you have a work permit :D I had a work permit for 10 years, you can leave whenever you want and even if the work permit expires while youre outside the country it doesnt affect you in any way or make it difficult to return, you return on a brand new stamp that has noting to do with old stamps that expired

the thing to bear in mind is that by not cancelling your extension of stay you technically go on overstay from the moment that expires. It can cause you problems further down the road, a 20k baht fine and still having to go to the office that issued the extension to cancel itRyan ******

It does not really matter. If you leave Thailand tonight your visa will expire right away. If you have a re-entry it will expire on its due date. To cancel the workpermit is employer duty. You can send them the book or card, wichever you have and they will cancel. So no big issues here. What do you worry about.

Since you're leaving tonight you don't have any/many options. Your school can theoretically cancel your work permit for you, I think they have 15 days. As far as immigration goes there's nothing you can really do tonight. If I read your post correctly the school changed the August 31st date to today's date? I'm not sure how immigration will treat this 1 week overstay, or if it even qualifies. 4 years is a long time and I believe it'll only affect you if you try and get another non Imm class visa.

OPGraham Seal it's the schools job to cancel the wp. They didn't. Wp should be cancelled before visa. Didn't happen. I'm not on over stay so don't need extension. I just want a clean immigration record because I plan on coming back in a few years.

Cancel your work permit and the labour department using the letter and take proof of the cancellation to immigration and cancel your extension is the correct way to do it
