Can I apply for a Workation DTV after my student visa expires while traveling back to the US?
Hello everyone, I’m from the US, and I’ve been in Thailand on a student visa which will expire Jan 13.
I want to get the workation DTV (i know i have to fly back to the US to apply and what the qualifications are) i was just wondering if leaving Dec 23rd coming back end of January/Feb 1st would mess with anything if my current visa expires POST application process? Cause i plan on applying the day i arrive in the US.
Any help or advice is appreciated ☺️🙏

Answer summary
The user is currently on a student visa in Thailand that expires on January 13 and wants to apply for a Workation DTV after traveling back to the US. They are uncertain if leaving Thailand on December 23 and returning by the end of January will affect their application, given the timing of their current visa's expiration. Comments indicate that they need to cancel their current visa/extensions before leaving and apply for the DTV only while in their home country, highlighting the importance of adhering to both institutional and immigration guidelines.

Your school is wrong. You can’t apply for a new visa while you have a valid one

DTV_BegPecker you cannot hold 2 Thai Visas/extensions at the same time plus he needs to apply for a DTV whilst in his home country

OPDTV_BegPecker i sent them a message to clarify that I’m applying for the DTV before my student visa exp date. So we’ll see if their answer changes

- If the school tells you the wrong info and it impacts your ability to get the visa, it is no harm to them, only you. So please don’t just blindly accept what they say. They will tell you want is easiest for themChristina ********
OPDTV_BegPecker I’m not that’s why I’m asking around

are you actually on a visa or an extension of stay, check your passport. If you are still on a visa, which I doubt, you just wait for it to expire before applying. However if your on an extension of stay you need to follow the steps I previously outlined, otherwise your extension remains open and you will technically be on overstayChristina ********

Make sure to visit the immigration office where you get your extensions and cancel your extension before leaving, take a letter from your school giving your last day of study
