Has anyone tried applying for a DTV while holding a Thai Work Permit?
Answer summary
The conversation discusses the complexities of applying for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) while holding a Thai Work Permit. It highlights that holding two visas simultaneously is typically not permitted, particularly if the Non-B visa is expired, which would lead to the work permit also becoming invalid. It is advised to properly cancel existing visas before applying for a new one. Some comments mention potential loopholes regarding the validity of the work permit and visa systems in Thailand, suggesting that there might be a way to hold a DTV while maintaining a valid work permit under certain conditions, but this approach is unorthodox and may violate immigration rules.

My lawyer told me to „cancel” my work permit before I left Thailand. With a confirmation of cancellation I visited the immigration and they canceled my business visa too. I had 7 days to leave Thailand.

If your Non-O visa and work permit are still valid, you would first properly cancel your Non-O visa.

Then, if you apply for and receive a DTV, there is technically a “life hack” where you could hold the DTV while your existing work permit remains valid.

Technically, this may be possible because of gaps in how the Thai immigration and labor systems are connected. However, it is not officially allowed and would technically be against the rules. It only works because the systems are not perfectly integrated.

You can't hold two visas at the same time, and if your Non-B is expired your work permit is also expired. Make sure these are canceled before applying.

is expired the same as cancelled?

Expired is not always automatically canceled in the system, even though technically/legally it can't be used. I would make sure of it to avoid losing the application fee.

You need to have whatever Visa you are on cancelled first before applying. Your WP is tied to that visa is it not?

if he has Thai wife non o visa it's not connected. So technically can be visa expires but work permit valid for a year or more. And unfortunately system not perfect different government officials cant check it only upon he himself show it.
